Makai has dedicated his life to servitude to the Plaguebringer, but rather than seeking place closer to the goddess he lives among a clan to call his own, tending to the spiritual needs of those around him.

He was born long before dragonkind started forming anything resembling a peaceful co-existence between elements, and grew up in a small clan of Plagueborns that were constantly tied in conflict with other elements. With half the clan almost fanatical in their devotion to Plaguemother and the other half never questioning status quo, Makai lived long into adulthood in an environment prone to stomping out any, even suspected, heresy - in the form of violent infighting, if more 'subtle' persuasion attempts failed.

It was after almost the entire clan was eradicated as a result of one such internal dispute growing far out of control that Makai left to travel Sornieth. Much to his surprise, he found communities of dragons where those of different births lived together. it was then that he questioned the fundamental nature of the conflict between the Elements, and started reassessing his own devotion to Plaguebringer.


Fighting to be the strongest, the victor, the righteous - this was of life had destroyed what he once called family. And ultimately, it was what lead to the turning point of his life - the death of a dear friend, and would-have-been mate for life, as he found himself getting stuck in the middle in senseless violence with costs far beyond what anyone might have benefited from it yet again.

It was that lost friend who had initially offered different perspectives on Plague virtues to Makai, putting his mind relative ease in that emotionally taxing time. And after the tragedy, he decided to take those words to his heart. He has lived by his new ideology since.

He arrived to Serclun only somewhat recently, after stumbling upon the clan's scouts when he decided to return to his homeland. Now, his role is the maintenance of cultures of Plague; when newcomers to Scarred Wasteland want to - or need to - leave behind quarantine zones, that's where those like Makai step in. He introduces dragons, and sometimes beastkin, to various, gradually stronger strains of Plague so that they may survive and, ideally, eventually thrive in his home.
