"Insert quote here."

Amiris is the child of a doting courtesan mother and a distant, but kind father. They were a happy accident made from a professional relationship, but that was never something that hindered them. Their mother had a way of describing things that was always truthful, but never unpleasant to hear. She was an exceptionally kind dragon, and one of the best mothers in all of Sornieth, if Amiris is asked. Some may sneer at the fact that she raised them to inherit her profession, but they never complained once. They never knew anything else, and even if they'd wanted to do something different, they wouldn't have known what their other options were.

It was nice, for awhile. They liked the company and the conversation and the pay was not insignificant. Amiris was not modest with their purchases, and enjoyed living surrounded by luxuries. Most of all, they loved receiving gifts from their clients. They were not as kind or as loving or as genuine as their mother was, and something about the gifts made them feel powerful. They liked the influence they could have on the dragons who came to them, and liked to see how extravagant the tokens of affection could be and what they could do to get even more extravagant week after week and year after year.

That sort of thing was only exciting for so long, however. Especially when the other courtesans weren't nearly as ambitious as Amiris was. They craved a sense of competition and accomplishment from somewhere outside of themselves and their clientele. So, they sold their things and left their cushy job and some of their favorite luxuries behind.

Foreigners in the tangled wood were extremely susceptible to trusting dragons who did not give the outward appearance of being born to the shadows. Amiris used their sweet face and many a soft-spoken word to get them to empty their purses. It was even easier than being a courtesan, and despite the fact that it didn't make quite as much money it did come with competition from other con-dragons and a sense of satisfaction that bloomed from outsmarting someone else. Sometimes they missed the kind whispers and soft touches, and occasionally even the friendship of the other courtesans, but the feeling went away the moment they got swept up in an especially exciting con.

In their free time, they tried to learn some amount of magic, usually things that would help them do better cons. Illusions, little tricks to hide things from sight. Spells to change things like weight or density without altering the appearance of the object. They got quite good at little enchantments like that, and started doing honest work selling enchanted objects in addition to running their cons. Eventually they even began doing more serious jobs constructing buildings that were more complex on the inside. Of course, the natural evolution of learning to work with buildings was learning to alter ones that already existed. They'd switch walls and doors around to get into the dwellings of other dragons, often with armfuls of glittering things that did not belong to them.
That was the most lucrative thing they had managed to do so far, and it only lasted for so long. Amiris gained a bit of a reputation, and it got harder and harder to stay in the tangled wood as more dragons caught on to them. After one particularly bad failure of a robbery, Amiris realized they would had to leave. They took only what they needed and left the rest behind, traveling to the sunbeam ruins in hopes of leaving their reputation in the shadows.

They stumbled upon serinatatem completely by chance, and the way the dragons there tried to get them to leave immediately intrigued them. They spent several weeks watching the activity of the dragons, trying to figure out what they were up to. Once they managed to figure out there was something underground, they manipulated the underground structure to get inside. The construction looked simple enough, but even with Amiris' practiced skill it was nearly impossible to breach. Upon getting inside, they were awestruck at the extensiveness and artful look of the place. There were smooth arches and curling, ornate carvings. Windows that opened onto rolling hills or sea views they could not have without magical intervention. It looked like it had been made with the same magic they had learned, but carved out by a far more skillful hand.

Though the dragons in serinatatem were alarmed by Amiris managing to get inside, they were impressed by the demonstration of their skill. Not of any mind to pass up an opportunity like that, the early residents of serinatatem asked Amiris to assist them in making sure that the facility was safe to live in, as they had only just discovered it and were quite wary of the rooms and hallways in the lowest levels. Amiris was not stupid enough to let go of an offer that would allow them to make an honest living, and settled right in.

Initially, the others were a little distrustful of them, and rightfully so. They tried not to push boundaries or make the other dragons excessively uncomfortable, but it was a learning process. They'd spent so long stealing from everyone around them that they had little idea how to act around dragons they didn't want any unscrupulous dealings with.
