xxxxxxThump. xxxxxxxxThump. xxxxxxxxxxThump. Her footfalls are heavy on the sun-baked ground beneath her claws. She can feel them reverberating up her bones, shaking dust off the exposed vertebrate on her tail. Thump. The sound is consistent in a way the landscape isn't, firm in a world that lacks firmament. Thump. Thump. Thump. It's rhythmic, changing only in moments where she finds herself hopping over strewn skulls or evading the more aggressive foliage, which tears at her paws whenever she's still too long. There's still thorns in her heels from the last time she stood still, some of them hardened points that have melded with her flesh and now excrete toxin. She's only barely aware of this new defense; it isn't the first time she has absorbed that which was used against her and made it her own. She is a survivalist, after all.

By the time the thing that tried to attack her has stopped making horrendous noise, she is splattered in its remains, entrails stuck on the sharp vertebrate dotting her tail and venom oozing from the strange spikes on her paws. It's still breathing, even in its desiccated form - it is the nature of her Blessing - and it wheezes as she digs her claws into its legs, beginning the long trek to the Wyrmwound. The meat will cry the whole way there, she already knows; but now, she can't hear it. She can only hear her feet against the hardened ground, her rhythmic pace slowed by the added weight - but she will bear it. It is a gift from Her, as all things are. She will take her time with all she does - the Gift must be alive when its lungs fill with Wound, or else there is no chance of survival. When she eats, she does so carefully; well aware that she is blessed to do so. The meat cries as she tosses it into the bubbling Cauldron, and she turns away as it sinks into the liquid, setting out once more into the Wastes. This is what she will do - cross the Wastes, find the Gifts, and bring them back to the Mother that sent them in the first place. It is what she is for. She is Chosen, after all.
