The Lost, The Found
Lately, everyone seems to be in some kind of danger. The neighbor, she’s attacked by some rabid animal, and the next minute, it’s like it never happened. But Hannah Lynch has seen it. She cannot explain it, but she’s seen it. Leon thought she was developing something, that she should see a doctor, but then, ever since that walk they took together, he’s been vaguely distant. Takes a little too long to notice when she’s approached him - he’s zoning out an awful lot. Doesn’t notice her holding his hand until well after she’s taken it. He’s always happy about it. He always thinks she just took it. He never notices how he doesn’t notice. He does know he’s a bit spacey, but he keeps blaming it on sleep.
She knows better.
She can’t tell him she’s seen him fall. She can’t tell him how often she swears his shadow has reached up as if to slam him down and drink him bloody into the pavement, nor how often it has almost happened, even, had she not grabbed hold of him tight against the tugging of his jacket. All she can do is hold his hand and pray. Pray that these visions don’t turn into reality, not for him, not for anyone.
