Biography

The last daughter of Chime and his first mate, who was disgraced and tossed aside for the prettier Banescale Grasscrown. Riverstone never trusted her father as much as she did her mother, and her fears came to life when he kidnapped her two brothers and sold them for treasure, then pinned the trafficking on his mate. The uproar forced the High Council to get involved and River’s mother was banished for her crimes. Riverstone was then put under her father’s care, and she tried very often to escape him, terrified of what he might do to her if he had the chance. Riverstone chose freedom over her clan and escaped the Windswept Plateau, hiding out in the Ashfall Waste, biding her time.

When she finally came of age, River returned to her birthplace. The first thing she saw when she reentered the lair was a new Mirror dragon, playing with his Mirror and Guardian hatchling. His mate looked on, a face she recognized: the clan founder’s daughter, hatched in their second brood. Riverstone found it interesting that the High Council now had grandchildren.
Suddenly, an idea came to her in boiling fury. The High Council had taken the one dragon she loved most away from her under a false accusation, but they took in a Mirror dragon - a species that lived for the killing and destruction of its environment - and not only that, but they allowed him to father their first grandchildren? The injustice was too much for River to handle, so she left the lair for some fresh air and some time to make a plan.

That night, Riverstone snuck into the Mirror’s den. She located the two hatchlings quickly and dispatched them with surgical precision. She was attacked from behind by the Mirror father, and she fought back with a vengeance. He screamed “RUN!” at something in the shadows, spurring a small shape to shoot out of the den. River didn’t have time to worry about it; she was in a battle to the death. Her larger size gave her an edge over the slinking Mirror, and she managed to land a deep bite to his throat. The abomination wheezed its last breaths as River escaped the lair’s growing chaos. On her way out, River’s eyes met the mate’s. Hers were wild and frenzied. Riverstone wondered bitterly if that was the expression on her own mother’s face when she found out two of her three children had been sold.

Content with her revenge, River returned to the Waste triumphant. After a few months, she migrated back to the Windswept Plateau to check on her old clan and observe the aftermath of her kills. Her timing could not have been better; a female Mirror dragon sauntered into the lair just after Riverstone had settled into her hidden vantage point. The new Mirror wore jewelry made of bird skulls- a well-known sign of tribal dragon rituals, clearly a dragon who wanted to show off some meager kills. River wondered if this Mirror had ever killed another dragon.
The Mirror exchanged a few words with a nearby dragon, and was immediately embraced by a Guardian dragon- it was still the High Council daughter! The Mirror didn’t look too pleased about the hug, but the Guardian was overjoyed. Finally, River’s mind made the connection: this newcomer was the shape that had sprung out of the shadows the night River killed the Mirror family. She hadn’t thought much of it before, seeing as she been a little preoccupied with outliving the father, but as the rotting breath of the Abiding Boneyard wafted up to her hiding spot, River realized she probably should have tracked down the last hatchling while she had the chance.
