Pronouns, or how not to use them
-internally uses he/him pronouns — but externally prefers they/them (it’s weird, I know. Nheil essentially doesn’t use gender, and likes nonbi because it means they don’t have to deal with other’s expectations.)
-loosely speaking, they believe themself to be male — but only biologically. Thus, they refer to themself as “he” because that is what they are, but prefer to be called “they” because it’s the closest they can get to expressing their not-quite-he-ness in a way others can understand
-Confused? As you should be.
-interestingly, considers everyone else truly nonbinary: in their mind, they’re the only one with gendered pronouns
-has mostly learned to compensate for this, but Arcanist spare you if you actually use they/them: Nheil will second-guess himself to death on your behalf (expect every pronoun known to dragonkind to get thrown into an awkward, stammering slurry)
-If you’re familiar with Fallen London’s address choices (sir, ma’am, ect, with the wonderful highlight of “Si-, er, Mad-, er, yes”) you can already guess what this sounds like

They came for him in the morning, they with their feathered wings and glinting eyes; the tallest colored white and black, dressed in tattered rags like a scarecrow. They came with gold in their eyes and grins on their face, looming shadows, the tallest pushing through the crowd, looking through them with want. Join, they said, join and eat the carrion with us. This is why you are here, and this is what you shall be. And Nheilik could not say no. He remembers his brothers: angry, smoldering, hate written on their face; refined, calculating, searching. They looked at him with pity: he, the coward, the broken one, stuck in mist and fractures — he, for whom pattern and meaning spun away like a pebble up a deep ravine. He thought in metaphor, but they spoke in sense and he could not understand. So he watched from the shadows and learned to mimic their talk, though it sounded strange to him and even stranger in their minds.
