Quetzalcoatl is an ancient god who's concept actually predates the Aztecs as an empire and was carried over from a more ancient civilization, and as a cultural hero he has may myths dedicated to him. He is one of the 4 most important Aztec gods, along with his 3 brothers the sons of Ometeotl the original supreme deity of the Aztec Pantheon who represents the concept of Duality which is a key theme throughout Aztec myth.

Quetzalcoatl is the loving and benevolent creator of mankind who acts in our favor to protect and improve us. He outsmarted the Lord of the underworld to collect the bones to give us form, he used his blood to give mankind life, He gave us the maguey plant to make rope, cloth, and alcohol, he took corn from the ants of the mountains and to feed us and taught us agriculture, art, writing, invented books and the calendar, and he stole the Cocoa bean from a greedy sun god so we could enjoy the food of the gods Chocolate!
He was regarded as being humble, acting more like a teacher and a priest who asked only for small offerings of food and was disgusted by the practice of human sacrafice, seeing as he loves humans, we are like his children and when our blood is spilt it is also his own blood.

Most of Quetzalcoatl's stories tell of his conflict with his brother Tezcatlipoca. Tez is the Yin to Quetz's Yang, while Quetzalcoatl represents all good things, Tezcatlipoca represents stuff like the Night, Darkness, War, Deception, Discord, Sorcery, etc...he strives for bloodshed and chaos so the two of them fight each other and sometimes Quetzalcoatl is defeated but as the god of Resurrection he always comes back kinda like the Avatar, Vishnu, or the Dalai Lama, so you'll often find many different stories of his birth and that he was born by several different goddesses which include Ometeotl, Coatlicue, Xochiquetzal, and Chimalman. I would love to see an Aztec god family tree and see how many times Quetzalcoatl appears.
