Tethys was born in a clan that lived within the Ashfall Waste. Her blue scales were something of an oddity, considering clear skies and blue waters were rarely seen in the smoky region. In fact, when a clan-member told her that her scale color was commonly known as "Sky", Tethys was very confused! As a youngling, she could not go far enough away from her clan's lair in order to find a clear sky to compare her scales to. She did not ever have much love of Fire Flight's stereotypical positions, instead preferring to try and understand that mysterious thing called "sky". The smoke and ashes that commonly cloaked said sky in black and grey made it impossible for her to do much with such an interest though. Other clan mates relied on her to warn them when a bad gale would bring the worst of the murky air their way. When she came of age, she was gifted a Sunspot Clouddancer for a companion and scroll of a "skin magic" to send her off well and with some "status". Since she did no metalwork or craft work, she needed to have something to her name, after all. Tethys thought it smart to head towards the south, considering she would hit fresh air earliest that way. Where Fire's realm met the sea was a fantastic site, filled with steam and all sorts of scenery. The imperial burst out across the waters and as she looked above her, she saw the purest blue above. Was this what they meant by her being "sky colored"? Her Sunspot Clouddancer happily circled and wheeled about her as they flew together. Her distraction somewhat caught her in a bad way, considering as she headed south, she was unaware of the blizzards that could quickly come seemingly from nowhere. Antilles, a scout, saw Tethys get buffeted, and warned the others of Yevaud and Reach's clan that they would need to aid the strange Imperial. Tethys and her Sunspot Clouddancer were quickly warmed up thanks to Tethys' inner fire magic, once they were safely with Yevaud and Reach's group. The Wandering Snows clan thankfully took in any that needed aid, it seemed. She apologized for ending up in such a predicament, but explained her distraction and her longing for seeing the sun and clear skies that were so easily observed in the waters between Fire and Ice. Another clan member, Selena, asked Tethys if she could read weather patterns. After all, the Icewarden had warned of warming in the Southern Icefields-- it would be important to have a dragon on hand in case there were sudden shifts in the weather such as harsh sunlight or noticing much ice melt. Tethys replied she was still learning, but would be happy to be of aid if she could to the Ice realm. She had a natural defense against Ice's weather, after all, thanks to her Fire heritage. (This was soon tested when she jumped in freezing waters to save her now mate, Xanthus.) She could fly into snow when aware of said snow easily. So, she was brought on as a weather-worker of sorts, although some members affectionately would call her "sunwatcher". |
