Kumaruka
— Born of Sanctuary —

The Tangled Wood is a location renowned across Sornieth for its deep forests, mysterious appearance, and its secrecy above all. When one enters the wood of rail-thin evergreens, drowning in fog and the fragrance of pine amid the mist, they may never realize the true scale of the dark land that stretches out before them. Along the banks of the river delta, between the glowing fungi, underneath the intimidating brambles, and even within the ancient ruins, countless clans have established themselves in the darkness, binding themselves to the shadows, in turn receiving a sense of privacy hard to come by within the other territories. One of these clans, called Sanctuary, was established by brother and sister, Nadim and Nadia, as a place for dragons with the blood of Naomi to practice their glitch-born abilities (if any), or for any dragon, looking for a space to belong. Sanctuary is full to the brim with dragons of all kinds, ranging from healers, to assassins, even alchemists. The dragons born within these walls often head out into the world to lead successful lives of their own, no matter what they decide to do.

Kumaruka was born as the season of Spring swept through the Tangled Wood. She is the eldest of her clutch, her younger siblings being Rhaelnes and Harphira. She was born to Nadim, the primary leader of Sanctuary, and his lifelong mate, Silica. As a child of one of the founders, she was expected to be a 'good example to other young ones.' Admittedly, she did try, however, she was prone to acting on impulse- which she often did. Her mother would tell her to gather some food for the clan with the foraging groups, only to find her, two hours later, painting a mural in the cave located near the clan's border. She was taught from an early age that her actions had consequences - even if they were not in any immediate way harmful to anyone. Because she hadn't gone foraging, the clan ran short of their storage of plants used for the meals of plant-eating dragons, including the young Kumaruka herself. It was enough to feed everyone, but just enough. She had learned this lesson the hard way, and she would learn it again, over and over, as she grew older. As she aged, she began to realize that there was more to the world than just the Tangled Wood. And so, one morning, she decided to pack her belongings, and set out for a new home.
