Miriam ✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧

Gilded Crown Unhatched Light Egg Clan Founder & Leader Unhatched Light Egg Gilded Crown

Two old Lightning Tundras, Dex and his mate Daina, were walking along the shore of the Shifting Expanse on a romantic stroll, enjoying the breeze and feeling the sand and water underneath their paws. Daina decided to wade out a little further, and spotted something floating in the distance. A wooden basket, rocking with the waves. Daina, a bit of a hoarder, decided to retrieve it. Inside was a beautiful, softly glowing Light egg, and a message was attached to the handle which read:

My clan is under attack. My husband is already dead, and I fear I am next.
Please take care of my child, whoever you may be.
Hera

Dex and Daina already had five children, but they had all moved to other clans, and the two eldest had children of their own. So, they decided to take the egg. The two constantly watched over it, wondering what could be inside, wondering about the hatchling's mother.

They were in for a shock when they found that the hatchling inside was a giant Imperial! She was given the name Miriam, meaning "lady of the sea". Before long, she was towering over her adoptive parents, barely able to fit inside the entrance of their lair. She was definitely the oddball of the family, but she loved her family, and she was loved in return.

Miriam spent her childhood drawing in sketchbooks and wishing for adventure. She wanted to explore, discover the world, maybe discover herself. So, when she was old enough, she decided it was time to leave. She hugged her parents (trying not to squish them) and headed north towards the Sunbeam Ruins. According to the golden glow of her eyes, this was her true home. She was here; what now? What to do? Her parents were not there to guide her.

For days she traveled the ruins, a steady diet of onions and fireflies sustaining her as she walked along ancient, shattered stone paths. She glanced at the ground, watching her feet as she walked; suddenly, the stone path ahead was pristine and no longer cracked. She looked up to see that the area in front of her was gripped with shade, despite it clearly being daytime. The Hewn City. Miriam was not afraid, but curious. The shade was a relief to her hot feathers and weary paws. She walked further, admired the broken pillars and walls for a while, then laid on her back to look up at the rising moon. She was drifting asleep.

---

Half-conscious, Miriam jolted awake to a sharp pain in her side. She sat up and clutched the wound, then her eyes struggled to fixate on two figures in the dark. They were Plague dragons, a Mirror and a Nocturne, standing over her and arguing.

"Val, you didn't have to kick her."
"She was in the way! What else was I supposed to do?!"
"...Go around her...?"
"...Well, her fault for lying in the road! Ugh, Imperials."

Miriam interjected, "Who are you?"
The Nocturne replied. He stated that his name was Izuna, and the angry Mirror that kicked her was named Valentine. He apologized, and Miriam laughed.

"Say, it's strange seeing Plague dragons around here!"
"Just passing through. We were planning on staying here for a bit. This isn't your lair, is it?"
"No, I'm also passing through. Want to stay with me?"

Izuna accepted, to the loud dismay of Valentine. They built a fire and sat around it, talking about themselves. Izuna stated that he and Valentine hailed from a clan of mercenaries. The two were good at what they did, but had become disillusioned as they realized that most of their targets had done nothing wrong, and were just selected based on selfish personal quarrels. Izuna and Valentine left the clan and sought redemption, but no clan would take them in because they had killed dragons before. Miriam listened thoughtfully, and was not afraid of the two former murderers sitting in front of her, although maybe she should have been.

"Why'd you tell me all that? You could be arrested."
"It's the right thing to do."

Miriam smiled. Izuna smiled back. Valentine pouted.

The fire was almost out. Miriam was cold. "I'm tired. Let's find somewhere to sleep."

She spotted a small, almost-intact stone structure; nothing a little handiwork couldn't fix. At the base of the stone, some hardy little violets peeked out of the ground; Miriam sat down and idly weaved a garland from the flowers, wearing it on her wings. Izuna and Valentine reached into their bags, and took out a lantern, blankets and pillows, and some snacks. The room was sparse but cozy, and the dim moonlight found its way through the holes and cracks in the ruin. They all laid down side-by-side and got comfortable. The soft blanket only covered half of Miriam's body. The three dragons said goodnight to each other and fell asleep.

Miriam woke up first. She'd never say it out loud, but she was surprised to find that she was still alive.

---

Miriam decided to stay in the Hewn City. So did Izuna and Valentine. Every day the three of them would gather food, talk, play games, and sit around the fire. Then one day, they were visited by two Imperials; old Rotterdam and his son Prophet. They had been kicked out of a superstitious clan in the Mirrorlight Promenade for Prophet's love of magic tricks. They asked if they could stay for a while, and the three agreed. Now there were five. Each dragon had a stone structure for a lair; what was once a barren, desolate ruin was being fixed up, and despite the ever-looming darkness, it started to feel more homely.

It all happened too fast; the group seemed to grow exponentially. The diplomatic power couple Willoughby and November, the hyper and eccentric partier Plurr, the ever-changing healer Asteria, the steadfast messenger Chik, the edgy outcast Cyanide, the mysterious twins Fantômas and Moonchild... It just now dawned on Miriam that she had formed a clan! But every clan needs a leader, and Miriam wasn't too keen on leading a group of dragons alone. Moonchild's daughter, Sunflower Sutra, stood out among the group as flexible, responsible, commanding, and wise. Sutra especially wowed Miriam, and they soon became inseperable. Miriam was fascinated with Sutra's advice and knowledge, and Sutra found Miriam's polite friendliness refreshing. They were a strange duo, due to their huge size and age differences and contrasting personalities.

But in this clan, no dragon batted an eye at this oddity; they were all strange in some way. Miriam had inadvertently formed a band of outsiders, of those who had been shunned, of those seeking a community to accept them. They lived in the shadows, quite literally. Miriam thought about this, then came to and realized that neither she nor Sutra wanted to lead the clan into the future by themselves. So, they stuck together and decided to rule as a team. November and Willoughby were given the title of advisors and managers. It was official; Miriam was the leader of a new clan in the Hewn City. The clan continued to grow until the population stabilized at about 60. Members joined and left, but the strong bond between them was the glue that held the clan together. All was at peace.

Then, it all collapsed.

---

Longnecks and Harpies surrounded the clan on all sides. They were innumerable. It seemed as though the clan, and the lives of those in it, would come to an end.

But the clan's warriors and defenders, led by Scalinatèlla, managed to fend off the beasts just long enough for every dragon to hurriedly grab some of their possessions and flee. Scalinatèlla and her soldiers fought valiantly, but she was vastly outnumbered. She was captured and dragged away, her fate unknown.

Miriam, Sutra, Izuna, and Valentine were hiding close by. Once all was quiet, they emerged to find that the once-mighty lair they had built had been reduced to ruins, blending in with the ancient pillars and walls around them. Everything was gone. Every one of their clanmates had run away, and there was no sign of them coming back. All they had was each other.

There was nothing left to do but rebuild. Maybe losing something is finding something else.

Miriam is polite and amicable, and loves to be around her clanmates, several of which she is a mother figure to. She used to love Beastclans and was very fascinated with them, but since the collapse, she's extremely wary of them. She's a bit lazy, and when the clan faces trouble, she often leaves Sutra, her assistant and apprentice, to deal with it. Their conflicting personalities clash sometimes, but Miriam and Sutra still consider each other good friends.
