"Beware lest you lose the substance by grasping at the shadow."

“Lariyah crossed the wrong alchemist at the wrong time. Her body is now a living vessel for shadow powers and has changed her look completely... she's still not sure about her mind.”

______ Lariyah had no idea how she had gotten herself into this mess. One moment she was playing a harmless little prank on one of her clanmates, and next she was lost in the woods. Fluttering and scampering full-tilt through the trees and brush, the little fae hadn't been paying attention to where she was going... she was too intent on staying out of reach of her pursuers. They had no sense of humor.

It wasn't until she started realizing she couldn't hear anyone behind her that she stopped and looked around. Lari had never been this far into the wood before. Her parents told her strange things lived in the deepest parts of the forest, and she should never go alone. Oops. Now what?

Figuring she would be able to see where she was from the tree tops, Lariyah climbed the tree she was in and attempted to look around. Unfortunately a thick fog had come up with the sun going down and she couldn't see far at all. However, there was a glow not too far away, so she would head for there. The little one had never experienced anything really bad before, so she had little conception of what might wait for her.

Lessons come to us all... Lariyah's lesson she learned that day was not to walk up to a strange dragon's lair without having been invited.

The dragon that opened the door appeared to be somewhat harmless, if slightly dotty. The mirror female let her and and scrounged around for some insects for the hungry little runaway. Lariyah didn't notice what was added to her meal, but she woke up a while later in some sort of chamber with her host humming softly to herself while she readied a potion and double-checked her guest's enclosure.

______ Lari never fully remembered that day. But after the explosion and another time of unconsciousness, she awoke and found her way home... only to be greeted with confusion.

Looking herself over, after realizing that everyone was staring at her, Lariyah found out her body had been turned to silver, and her wings and belly to glass. A swirling potion filled up the transparent parts of her. Utterly confused and quite a bit scared, she ran to her parents and waited while the elders had a council.

It was decided that Lariyah would be sent to Chaotic Daydreams. There were elemental spirit dragons there who were well-versed in all magics. Maybe they could help her. Indeed, once the fae and her family arrived, Nyteshade was very pleased to see the little one. After reassuring the escorting dragons that Lariyah would be well-cared for and would write home, he took her under his wing to learn more about what she was now and what she might become later.

After some time figuring out that all her physical changes had not changed her mentally or emotionally, Lariyah decided she wanted to find a new home of her own. To that end, she said goodbye to the friends she'd made at the 'lair of the lunatics' and headed out again.

She eventually came to settle down in a lair that was a massive amalgamation of dragons of all types and kinds. At first, she was nervous but was able to quickly relax thanks to Leila. Leila is a shadow flight dragon who is fascinated with light flight and has become a scholar. She finds the situation that Lariyah is in to be just as fascinating, and offered to take Lariyah under her wing and help her out. Perhaps even reverse what happened if she gets lucky. She was also the one who dressed up Lariyah, perhaps a little too enthusiastically but it helped her feel more settled with fewer eyes on her. Having a friend who doesn't mind her differences and is willing to help her out has really helped her feel like she's found a home.
