Subspecies: The Goo!

it's the goo!
Origin: In the Crystalspine Reaches a small group of competitive and ambitious young dragons, newly exalted into the Arcanist's service, went a little overboard with coming up with a new potion created from rare herbs and may have... melted a bit of stone. Just a bit of the side of a mountain... A small portion, really. The stone had been melted into a smooth liquid of pure rosy pink that hummed with the natural magics of the land. That small group was still arguing with each other over whose fault the accident was when the puddle moved and coalesced into a small handful of what appeared to be Fae Dragons.

Goo dragons are quiet and curious, each an individual though they seem to share a sort of shared consciousness - aware of each other over great distances and able to silently communicate. No Goo dragon is a stranger to the others. Highly adaptable, they create colonies - building their lairs out of what appears to be a combination of tree sap and their own bodies which is left to harden. These structures are not living, but The Goo still considers their homes part of themselves and mourn any damage they receive. They eat, drink, sleep, and mate like any other dragon, however periodically they must let their forms rest by melting completely into a liquid. This is also how they guard their nests. Hatchlings raised in Goo colonies are considered children of the colony, and bloodlines are bit of an odd concept to them. They are Goo, after all.

Appearance: The Goo can take the form of any modern dragon species, and are apparently completely liquid except for bone or scale like structures that seem to help them hold their form. Pure Goo is a rosy pink, while extended generations or distant homelands can introduce contaminates to that color. The original generations of Goo is fairly consistent in color and appearance, but more variations are appearing as The Goo spreads outside of Arcane's Territory.

Apparel: Goo dragons are clever, and delight in crafting decorations for themselves out of whatever natural material they can find. Feathers, bones, flowers, etc. They have a strong preference for decoration that matches their coloration. They also appreciate apparel that assists them in holding their form together.

Requirements
Breed: Any Modern breed.
Primary: Slime, Rose
Secondary: Sludge, Rose
Tertiary: Scales, Pearl-Ice

Variations:

Hardened

Rarely, as the result of age, temperature, or quirk, one of The Goo may appear 'hardened' - their wings and bodies becoming translucent and stiff. They are otherwise identical to other Goo, though perhaps more fragile. Returning to goo form is more difficult, and leaves behind crystalline shards.

Requirements: XXY, Wasp/Bee/Scales

Contaminated

Goo that have traveled far from their homeland risk contamination. They retain their rosy coloration, but it is swirled with other colors. The only notable effect of such a state is that their connection to the shared consciousness is weaker at great distances. Contaminated Goo may ostracize themselves from their colony in order to halt the spread of the contamination, and often seek out other contaminated individuals to form colonies of their own.

Requirements: XXY Poison/Toxin/Scales

Descendants

The children of a Goo dragon and a normal dragon come in two varieties - Goo, or Dragon. The Goo children are like their Goo parent, with a mutable form and the characteristic bony structures, though they may exhibit a wider array of colors. Their presence in colonies is limited, for the concern of contamination. They may or may not have a connection to the shared consciousness. The Dragon children are simply normal dragons, though they may exhibit mutable bodies or wings. Though it is extremely rare for such a dragon to have a connection to the shared consciousness, telepathy is however common.

Goo Descendant, Goo-form Requirements: Any/Any/Pearl-Ice, Slime/Sludge/Scales

Goo Descendant, Dragon-form Requirements: Only requirement is that one of their direct parents is a Goo dragon.

Some thoughts:

This was really a delightful little project for myself! I'd considered letting the tertiary gene requirement be a lot wider - gembond, keel, glimmer, veined, spines... as well as specification for the ancient breeds, but I just wasn't happy with it. I just liked my tidy little XXY Arcane dragons and wasn't inspired for the lore. So I decided to stick with scales for myself. But I sort of consider these an Open Source subspecies, so anyone is welcome to take the base concept and run with it for their own lore.

XXY Poison/Toxin/Skeletal Banescales and XXY Mosaic/Breakup/Scorpion Goalers may be unofficially considered Contaminated Goo if anyone wants to go with that. The Ancients are difficult forms for The Goo to maintain, as they are so much less uniform then modern breeds
