Her parents claimed that she wasn't theirs. The only skydancer amongst ridgebacks, they said, what were the chances? They took her to their matriarch, saying that she had fallen from the sky. Her eyes aren't of our clan. They whispered. Look how clouded they are, and how they glow. That can't be normal! The matriarch told them not to worry, that the hatchling would be fine. It soon became apparent that things were not fine. The hatchling's eyes were clouded enough that she could not see, and neither did she speak. While her ridgeback siblings ran about the clan playing with their borrowed treasures, she just sat nearby and listened, or would stare straight into the sun. It wasn't until her second month that she suddenly got up from her rocky perch and headed straight for her mother with uncanny accuracy. Stopping in front of her, she spoke with a booming and echoing voice The darkness is coming for you and your children; only one will escape into the light, and it will not be you. The matriarch cast the young dragon into the wastes out of fear, leaving her to fend for herself in the dark. When the darkness came upon them suddenly, Freya's prophecy rang true; only one of her mother's children survived the onslaught. Freya fulfilled her prophecy by finding the light and becoming one of its many priestesses. She found other warriors of light and from them learned how to cast out the shade, and how to make sense of her prophecies. They are still always prophecies of doom, but she has more understanding over them. Freya knew they had found a place to settle when she and her two warriors found Ilona among the Weathering, the God of Light in her physical form. They stay in order to both protect the God Queen and to help her eradicate the Shade. |
