Heephis looked into the empty cauldron in the center of the room. He poured in a few glowing yellow chemicals and let the pot simmer. The walls of the cavern were covered in purplish-black goop, the same taint he was covered in. He stared at it all. Sometimes it felt like the walls were taunting him, showing that nothing could ever be free from the taint. It clung to the walls no matter how much he tried to pull it away, and it would cling to him no matter how many experiments he performed.
He despised how much of his life it had consumed. His work, this place, not to mention his own body. He could hardly remember a time before it, before Topaz, before he lost his...
NO. He didn't want to remember that. Not again. It was just the darkness messing with his mind. It wasn't important anyways: his past, his clan, his family...
Images flashed in his head. Two hatchlings, one gray and cyan, another black with red stripes...the others... his siblings. Heephis's stained claws gripped his head but it was too late.
He heard the rumbling of Beastclan warriors, and the mewling of his others. Under the cover of their hiding spot, they cried desperately for safety, for their parents, for anyone. And all Heephis could think about was all the noise they created. Those imperfect annoyances just wouldn't BE QUIET, would they? Even at a time like this...
SHUT UP!
Heephis couldn't remember what happened next. No, he WILLED himself to forget.
All he remembered was a yellow-eyed dragon approaching the hidden burrow.
"I think we found one! He's alive!"
Just one.
No clan, no family, no siblings.
Just Heephis.

Heephis joined the Mystics' Guild when he and Topaz were discovered by hunters patrolling the area near the clan's lair. According to Topaz, Heephis had slipped into a river near the Light and Dark flight border while they were walking by the stream. Topaz tried to save him, but the weight of the water in their fur caused them to both sink into the ocean.
This incident resulted in Heephis's body becoming covered in some sort of darkness, which seems to be impossible to remove. At least, before Heephis's experiments.
It's unknown exactly how Heephis discovered alchemy. Some say it was an accident, while others believe it was a deliberate move by Nyx to teach more dragons about the subject. Whatever the case, Heephis now dedicates most of his time to experiments involving the taint on his body. Some seem to actually destroy it, but some seem to make it grow...
And it seems like the taint in Heephis's cavern is only growing everyday...
