Biography
The Saved Sailor
Winterwind is a former Seeker who was sent on a ship north from the Southern Icefields with a crew of other Seekers to bring shade back to The Fortress. After a kraken disaster that left only himself and his now-mate Rivalle alive on the measly remains of a ship, the pair sailed in a desparate fever under the guilt of having failed their mission. They grieved and wailed over the loss of their Order, and exhasuted themselves by the feeling they didn't do enough to protect the other Gaolers. After weeks on the open water, both lay with unnaturally thin fur and scorched tongues within breaths of their lives. Mot a moment too soon, they were rescued by a particular pirate ship that caught sight of the desperate drift and brought them aboard.
Feeling forever indebted to their saviors, the two Gaolers spent many moons learning the ropes of sea life on Captain Amelia's ship with her crew as payment for their rescue. After The Captain determined that their debt had been fully repaid (much to the Gaolers' protest), the pair was sent towards The Maren's own home clan and embraced by its Matriarch. Too ashamed to return to the Icefields, and most certainly considered dead by their Seeker Keeper, the two decided to dedicate their lives to the same endeavor that allowed them to continue theirs: rescuing dragons by sea.
On the surface, this occupation would seem counterintuitive for a Gaoler, who instinctively seeks to imprison and maintain. On the contrary, helping dragons in the pursuit of freedom is exactly what Gaolers do. Is not the The Fortress of Ends in place to keep Horrorbeasts from infringing on the feedom of dragonkind? Winterwind and Rivalle certainly think so. From assisting dragons fleeing cult clans to those outrunning plagues or storms, the pursuit of shuttling dragons accross miles of oceans is this Gaoler's noble pursuit.
Winterwind and his mate Rivalle have since co-captained the reliable Windraille to transport refugees from dangerous situations. He won the humble ship during a drunken game of poker in a port once while was still working for The Maren. It should be clarified that the rest of the players were drunk, not the Gaolers. ("As though we would even consider partaking in such frivilous debauchery!")
This dragon has dedicated his life to aiding others one journey at a time, even if that means putting himself in harm's way. Plenty of beings have attempted time and time again to take the zippy Windraille down, which has contributed to many advancements to his dear ship over the years. Complete with plenty of gunpowder and blast cannons affixed by his clanmate Magmus himself!
