Much like his fellow first generation Obelisks, Ziastone had been carved personally by the Earthshaker. He had been among the first to be awakened, and he had felt honored to hear his creator's mission that he had laid upon them. He took to the skies almost the moment he had hit daylight, flying as high up as he could before turning around to see the world below.
