Biography

Enya, daughter of Halcyon of Clan Mahesha
Hunter

Born to the warmth and light of the Viridian Labyrinth, Enya is one of the youngest daughters of her proud Wildclaw parents, who in the custom of their breed have many, many children. Enya's pretty sure none of her many brothers and sisters were stolen eggs. Mostly sure.

Though her clan widely considers her a skilled hunter and she flies her weight for food, Enya is an oddball amongst even her close in age siblings who've sat their own nests with mates. Enya is alone, though she's tried with mates before. There has never been an egg, and now most of the male Wildclaws of the Labyrinth avoid Enya, with a rumor around that she will only leave a mate with breeding exhaustion and a nest of dead brown eggs with rotten leaves. And so she hunts and helps others with their nests and hatchlings. She's done enough crying over nests that didn't hatch.

As Greenskeeper Gathering kicks off among the Labyrinth folk, Enya is hosting a strange group of dragons who don't fly and seem to be experiencing so many things for the first time, despite being grown adult dragons. Particularly Harmeer, though he has Nature eyes he claims to have not hatched in the Labyrinth and diving like a hatchling into everything regarding their flight and the Gathering.

Enya cannot, will not, risk the heartache of more dead eggs and another male leaving her. But Harmeer, doesn't seem like any other Wildclaw she's ever met. His clanmates are a mix of elements unlike anything she's ever seen, and breeds. They have no hatchlings in their clan. Her clan's nesting grounds seemed to make them uncomfortable when she showed Harmeer and Silas there as a courtesy to her guests.

Maybe, maybe, Harmeer and his clan are a place that won't care that Enya's eggs never hatch.

Journal of Enya, Daughter of Halcyon - The journal is a worn thing, spotted on a few pages with damp circles that smell vaguely of a wooded glade. A female Wildclaw holds it as she writes, and a few more tears fall on the parchment pages.

"It was a mistake, I know it was a mistake. I took Harmeer hunting in our new territory where we had Avril as backup to gather meat for those of this in our clan who eat it. Avril had gone farther than intended, I don't think she's the most intelligent Guardian, according to Harmeer she used to be a "ro-bot" but I didn't quite understand what he meant, until he compared her to the golems. I understood that. It was while we had privacy away from the clan that one thing led to another and I led Harmeer through the dances." A few more drops of flower-scented water spot the journal.

"Now we're back with our clan, and I feel it. The heaviness of something growing. How do I tell clanmates made so uncomfortable by the nesting grounds that I'm going to lay soon? And Harmeer, what do I say? And above everything else, oh Gladekeeper, I can't do this again! I can't watch another nest rot because they never hatch! But maybe, maybe, to the Shade with the Gladekeeper! I've never had my eggs live in my years nesting in the Labyrinth, may the Flamecaller grant me far more of her favor."

Enya places two figures on a shelf above the nest where she has made her home in the clan with Harmeer and closes her journal and tucks it away, picking up her growing body to walk to where Silas and Emmitt are telling stories about their lives before, of a world called "Earf" and a city called "New Yurk" as Selira and Aster ask questions about this other world and its gods.

Journal of Enya, Daughter of Halcyon - The journal is spattered with a few happy tears that smell of the freshest roses. "Every day, carefully, incubating the nest, hoping and praying to my new goddess, the Ashfall Waste is my home now. And they're still healthy! They're alive and they're warm and when I turn them in the lava pool, I can feel the weight of a hatchling inside. They've gotten heavier and grown since I laid them! I don't know if it's clutching under a different deity, the element, or the strangeness of Harmeer and his clanmantes' arrival to our world making the difference but though I can't take the pain of it again if it's in vain, I'm starting to feel hope. And hope, after so many disappointments and the pain of burying eggs once all hope was gone they'd hatch. It's terrifying.

Based on when I laid them, my eggs should start to pip very soon. I'm terrified, because I've let myself hope now and I can't watch another rot."

Journal of Enya, Daughter of Halcyon - "They should have hatched yesterday. They should have already hatched. Selira is reassuring me that some babies just take longer than others and they're still healthy, but I know already. I know they won't hatch, the first signs of rot are appearing on one of the eggs. Harmeer seems to have an idea after he went to speak to Erin.

Or he's already finding someone else."

Later - "Sunset is coming and they haven't hatched. I asked Selira her opinion, if there was still hope. She gave me a platitude about the Flamecaller's will and it was all I could do to just turn away and walk away instead of eating the tiny pest in two bites! The Gladekeeper spent years watching my nests fail and despite my hope the Flamecaller turns away from me as well! To the Shade with the gods! The Shade brought my mate and his people here, and the Shade will make my eggs hatch and live."
