Born to a family of wandering Gaolers, Benni's family wasn't anticipating a long-term stop in the Water flight. His parents were traveling before settling down in the frigid waters near the Southern Icefield, but his clutch was set to be laid sooner than they expected, causing a makeshift nursery. Still far from their destination, when the little Gaolers finally hatched their parents got them used to the water as fast as they could so the long swim would be easier. The warm waters were something Benni would never forget.

Once old enough to set on his own, he traveled north in search of waters as warm as he remembered. Along the way he found Dusk Clan, and met friends as warm as the memories he had.
