Friday the 13th birthday


Vaccine lives in the BloodMarrow Emergency Hospital and Rehabilitation Center

Thing is it gets raided a lot for supplies and stuff (this is so I can write lore in bits and pieces and I don’t have to write ‘well here’s their first visit and their second and-‘ until they finally open up, so they’re missing files from the various raids)

Hospital is infamous for being burned down a million times and yet still surviving and coming back from it

So little Vaccine is an unnamed bab that a raiding clan had kidnapped because plague primal is a sign of plaguemom and they want her a great warrior on their side

But they fail their raid (most of the staff in the hospital have learned to fight back in unconventional ways at this point) and in the chaos the bab gets left behind

And the staff are doctors not detectives so they can’t find her parents and they just... keep her around in pediatrics

And then after a while they notice that the hatchlings are only around for a day at most, either they’re out or they’re dead

And then it starts happening in other parts of the hospital, patients are there for an extremely short time and in that time they’re healed or they never will be

So they investigate and figure out, all the patients this has happened to are all the ones Vaccine has visited

The gift plaguemom gave her was that while nothing happened to dergs that were physically okay when they met her, if they were sick then everything instantly worked on overdrive and over the course of the next few hours either the derg’s body won and they were fine or the illness won and they’d die

(This backfires if it’s like a broken bone that hasn’t been set yet, so in a few hours it’s healed but it’s healed wrong)

cuz it always bothered me in the back of my mind

cuz i would handwave it off as like "sick dergs she interacts with either die or live within a day cuz magic"

but she doesn't speed time, cuz time isn't pleg aesthetic, pleg aesthetic is more biological based

and also bothered me in that how does her ability know who's sick and who isn't how does it tell, cuz you can still be healthy and absolutely covered in pathogens and germs and stuff at the same time in fact that is normal and trufax most of the time(edited)

it doesn't distinguish who's sick or not at all

it works on everyone

it boosts metabolism in both the derg's immune systems and whatever is ailing them at the same rate at the same time

so not only does it look like she's speeding up time even tho she's not, healthy dergs wont notice anything different cuz their immune system is already doing a fine job of keeping up with any and all pathogens so even tho the viruses and bacteria in their bods are getting boosted their immune system is matching them without any trouble

if anything they'll just get hungry and lose weight slightly faster, maybe feel a little warmer than usual(edited)

but if they're not healthy that's when vaccine's metabolism boosting is noticable

and that's why a sick derg's fate can be determined in the span of a day, boosted metabolism is just burning thru all the energy and fuel it possibly can to match the boosted illness

Vaccine has no idea she’s doing this, only that there are people in the building and they sad so she wants to check out why they sad and maybe they can play with her?

She doesn’t age and that’s a side effect, cuz she’s also effected by this ability

She’s absolutely infested with various viruses and bacteria but her body basically compensated for it with a ridiculous rate of cell regeneration

Vaccine just wants to play

Also she thinks blinking is weird since she can’t blink

She also sometimes plays with the recently dead bodies cuz sometimes everyone is busy and don’t want to play with her and also how else is she going to play with the old scalpels she finds in the red boxes?

She can’t use them on alive people, they yell at her and that’s scary

Her time with the raiding kidnapping clan has made her scared and wary of other dergs especially if they're yelling, but she also just really wants to be their friend

She will make them a gift out of the bones of her favorite skeleton and if they are yelling right now she will cower in the corner and hide until they stop, but she wont leave until then because she made them a gift and dangit she will give it to them no matter how much she wants to leave

She just wants to play and be loved

She’s the kind of derg that when she learns how to craft will handcraft you a bouquet (and also lunch) if she sees u cryin, but the bouquet is made of bones topped with balls of meat in the vaguest approximation of the shape of flowers (since she has never seen flowers before, only heard descriptions of them)

Make macaroni art pictures with metacarpals instead of noodles

Will listen to yer problems and try to cheer u up with a song which is usually the song aboot which bone is connected to what

Will have conversations with the bodies and also says their half of the conversation, but in the “child trying to sound like an adult” voice

She makes blanket forts to sleep in cuz she doesn’t have her own room since so many other sick dergs need them

The other staff do the same actually, since the building burns down so often
