One day, Shaami was patrolling during the night, together with her best friend, Delicate... When she suddenly fell on something. Deli couldn't held a laugh in, as she was usually the one falling over things, but she stopped as soon as she saw what she had fallen over. Deli examined all over the little baby dragon, making sure he wasn't hurt, ignoring the jealousy of the big pink baby that she called a friend. Not a scratch. "Good... Now, what are you doing here, little one?" "You not gonna get mad at him? He could have done it on purpose...." Shaami was saying, but stopped when she looked at the disdain in her eyes. The baby, initially scarred with the surprise, started to ease as he noticed they didn't mean harm. Well, the green lady didn't. He told her he didn't know where his parents where at, cuz he overslept after disobeying and staying up to look at the stars; they mustn't have noticed they left without him. This time Shaami had to laugh, while Deli was just worried for the child. He wasn't the wimpy little thing Sham initially though. "Let's try and find them for you... We are patrolling anyway. Get on my back, little one." They searched all night, but to no avail. The child was getting a little disheartened by midnight, right when Shaami started talking to him whatever came to mind, trying to make him focus on anything else. In the end, they were talking like old friends. Seeing Deli come to understand they would probably not find the childs parents, Sham cut to the chase. "Hey, little dude, you are almost falling off Deli. Wanna come meet our family and get some sleep?" She said, sneakly, trying not to cover the story up. "I can.... *Yawn.... Keep going with you guys!" The child said, getting a last laugh out of Sham, as she rolled her eyes and dragged Deli back to the lair. Though the rest of the clan was surprised by the new arrival, they soon were fawning over the child. Later, they decided to call him Cygnus, as he seemed to love that constellation. Even though Cygnus was not too much younger than his peers, he was the runt of the litter, with the shortest wings and one of the least and no muscle at all, quite the skinny doll. In a matriarcal lair, it was no surprise he would be pampered as a kid forever, and treated as so... even by his own mate. But things weren't so easy. He tried gathering food alone... but he could only bring scraps back, as it was all too heavy for him to lift back alone. He tried to sell useless trinket others found... But he couldn't understand what was useless or how to price them. And asking Lynfa for training almost gave him a heart attack. Fighting was so rough, he couldn't see himself standing up for such a beating, he prayed he would never need to meet the Gladekeeper. Though he thought he was being sneaky, there was talk between the girls if they should intervene. But Artemis was the one that said no to them. That was something he had to do himself and them helping would only make it worse. But... By the end of the week... "Hey, Cyg, can you do me a favor?" She asked, while he was lying down on a tree. "Sure, I... Wait, I can?" He perked up, making her almost die holding a laugh in. He sure acted as a child for someone who wanted to see as a full adult. But she would show to him the potencial she saw. "Well, are you not the best one here to help guide me and maneuver through the terrain? If there is it would be..." "NO! NO!" He jumped up, readying his feather for the flight. "I can help you! Certainly! You'll never get lost with me!" Artemis laughed, wondering if... "You know how cheesy that was, right?" she couldn't help herself, enjoying to see him puff up in embarrassment. "I was not lying though." He said, making her puff up herself. "You better not be... Come on, boy, we have to look for eggs." "Sur.... Wait, you are going the wrong way!" He rushed to her side. He would never tell her, but as much as Deli had no coordination, Temi had no sense of location... She would give him trouble. But that trouble was his favorite. Though he was treated like a baby before, Cygnus was still growing at the time... Even if he would not be the biggest skydancer around, he was no runt. And that travel with Temi gave him the confidence he was lacking. He was indeed great with directions, not only thanks to the stars and his energy sensitivity. And that was very helpful. As time went on, even his demeanor was changing. The boy that would up and ran to see the stars, suddenly was becoming a serious dragon that had the needed patience. Maybe he just absorbed Temi's serenity, but she was right when she sought him. They were a match made in heaven. |
