Biography

. Fireflower » the survivor . |
Serthis society is not kind to any of its members, least of all the young, the sick, or the elderly. Many colonies don't even grant them a quick death; instead, they abandon them to a slower, crueler fate. Many serthis accept this fate as punishment for their own weakness, but others don't. A pair of injured warriors, a couple of defenseless young, and an elderly alchemist, culled from their colonies and made equal by being made nothing, saw no reason to die. All had been taught to survive at all costs, and all of them would. They made their own colony, a hidden little sect that moved in secret and lived by the code that survival by any means, by definition, included survival through aid. The young ones were almost grown when, while slipping through the night, they heard a thin wavering wail. It drew them to a camp in a diseased little stand of trees where a fight had obviously taken place, with no sign of attackers or defenders in sight. The wailing came from a dragon, still half in her shell, crying of hunger and fear. The miniscule colony, made up of those too weak to survive on their own, knew that their old sects would have immediately killed the hatchling, or left her to starve to death, but they couldn't justify that and still justify their own continued existence. So they adopted her. They named her Fireflower after what quickly became her favorite meal and taught her a proper langauge, along with the little draconic they knew between them. As she grew, they tried to leave her behind where dragons would find her a few times, but she always found her way back to them. These excursions did help improve her draconic, however, and she began to pick up how to fly. The colony judged Fireflower just about grown when the whispers began in the shadows, of beastclans allying themselves with dragons. The colony still struggled to survive day-to-day, and they still wanted Fireflower to have other dragons around her, so they went looking for friendly dragons to ally themselves with. Eventually, they found their way to Des and his flock. The harpies and the serthis handled most of the actual negotiating; Des can't speak, after all, and Fireflower is ... not the most articulate. They came to an agreement that saw flock and colony combining into what dragons would consider a clan, and thus the Shifting Bones was born. |
