Lily the Driftwood Gem Guardian
  1. Her scales are covered in a thin layer of slime at all times
  2. She can come off as a bit naive and shy
  3. Is able to shape shift into other dragon breeds, but prefers her Pearlcatcher and Nocturne forms
No one knows where Ren came from - only that Ekans found the small pink dragon entangled in a bramble bush on the edge of Tangled Wood territory. The small Pearlcatcher was covered in a thin layer of glossy slime, which left residue on Ekans’s fur and vestments as the hatchling clung to her. Though it may have been appalling to some dragons, Ekans had honestly handled much worse with her experiments, and, quite frankly, she was intrigued.

The Tundra wandered around the gloomy landscape for a number of hours, attempting to find the hatchling’s parents, or any sign of them. In the meanwhile, the Pearlcatcher busied itself with nestling between Ekans’s wings and reaching around to poke at the numerous eyes that peeked through the Tundra’s thick fur. As the light grew dim, Ekans thought it best to take the hatchling to safety in the Viridian Forest and her clan.

Back home, within Ekans’s workshop, the hatchling was immediately drawn to the bubbling cauldron and various colored potions that sat upon high-up shelves. “You should be thankful,” the Tundra said absentmindedly, “I don’t let just anyone into my workshop.” She sighed and picked up the slimy hatchling, who clung to their pearl. Suddenly, the Pearlcatcher blinked and announced, in an unsure voice, “Ren. . . thank. . . ful”, before turning to look at the potions once more. Stunned by the hatchling suddenly speaking after having been silent this entire time, Ekans let her grip on the small dragon loosen for a moment, which they took to wiggle free. Before they even touched the ground, their form had shifted, now looking something more like a nocturne, pearl thumping to the ground. The newly-changed dragon lept atop a nearby table and scampered over to get a better look at the potions as all of Ekans’s eyes blinked rapidly, trying to comprehend what had just happened. Unbothered, the hatchling sniffed at a potion bottle before turning their attention elsewhere to poke around the room, occasionally murmuring the words “Ren thankful” like they were still trying to figure out how to say them.

This was the start of something very odd. Ekans decided to take the hatchling into her and Nouveau’s care, nurturing it as if it were her own child. The hatchling learned quickly how to mimic the phrases of others, and, though still lacking, has learned many words. Somehow, Ren is also able to change the look of her body, morphing it into other breeds, though a signature pink-and-yellow slime always covers her form. They sometimes carry their pearl around with them when in Pearlcatcher form, though they don’t seem to have any emotional attachment to it like normal Pearlcatchers.

She is still a bit naive and shy, but is eager to learn about anything having to do with transmutation, alchemy, and chemistry. She is the only other dragon who knows of Ekans’s work as an alchemist.
