Rude Awakening "Oh my GOODNESS" screeched Cavernsong, "I told you to be careful and I come back to see you chanting something weird and two babies getting ejected from the creepy crystal!" The blue dragon was practically tearing at her shimmering mane as she scolded her sister. "Well I didn't know reading it aloud would cause stuff to happen! I just remembered part of the scroll all of the sudden and wanted to read it!" CrystalBloom cried out, "Do you think I wanted to make funky crystal hatchlings?!" Oblivious to the obvious distress of both of the older dragons, Shalim cocked his head curiously at the strange display. To the little hatchling, the cave seemed huge. Flexing his claws, he tentatively sniffed the dark green that seemed to grow on most of the ground. Placing his little front claws on the algae, Shalim let out a gleeful chirp at the wave of sensations that he felt through his skin. He could practically taste the richness of the damp ground through his soft, spongy skin. Awakened by his ecstatic chittering, the second dragonet blearily opened its eyes. With what almost seemed like a sigh of annoyance, his brother reluctantly stood up and padded over to check out what the fuss was about. Daintily sniffing the algae, Shalim's brother did not share his excitement about the luminescent green algae. He shook his head with a snort, very evidently nonplussed by the glowing carpet that covered the floor in a wide ring around the crimson crystal. Shalim didn't mind the other dragonet's disdain for his new favorite thing however, and his big ears perked up as the flapping of his brother's ears caused a lyrical tinkling to echo throughout the cave. Cautiously, he edged closer to his brother, lifting a claw apprehensively. His brother gave him an odd look, and he carefully batted at the big floppy blue ear. Jumping back at the chiming noise of the ear, the two hatchlings eyed each other carefully, equally mesmerized by the pale glint of glassy segments and swirling stars on the other. Having stopped squabbling in order to watch their new little brothers play, Cavernsong sighed wearily. "Regardless of what happened, these children are now our responsibility. I mean, I've mentioned that the cave felt empty sometimes, but this was definitely not what I had in mind." |
