HERA - Dragon Out of Time

Hera spent precisely one day of her life in her parents’ loving arms. One single day, from the moment the sun touched her shell and called her forth, to the moment the moon reached its height.

She has spent every day since drifting out of time.

There’s no other way to explain the phenomenon. When she woke on the second day, she was on the same island where she hatched, but there was no sign of her home. No towering stone fortifications, no magically tended garden, no flickering torches set alight at her father’s hand. She simply lay on the earth, lost and alone, with nothing in the world to aid her.

Every day since, she finds herself wandering a different era. It’s something of a miracle she has survived this long, hurtling through the years as she does. Thrown between days of desolation and moments of progress so astounding that she cannot wrap her mind around it, Hera has been party to more of history than most dragons alive.

What she wants more than anything, though, is to go home. It’s a distant memory by now, so far away, but she craves the family she could have had, were she not cursed.

And these days, she wonders if she’s getting close. Maybe, just maybe, if she returns to the site of her birth on the day of her birth, maybe she can go back and see them again. Maybe they’ll even recognize her.

Or maybe she will wander through time for all eternity.
