Their voice sounds odd, but you can’t put your claw on what it is. “What a bummer. But if that was the end of your story, you wouldn't be here, would you?” They turn their upper body to face you properly, and you can catch a glimpse of what’s inside the cauldron in front of them. A faintly glowing, orange substance―similar to the liquid that seems to be inside of them. You dare not to ask. Their long, flexible body moves in impossible ways as they begin to surround you, and as your gaze follows their head, you make out shelves upon shelves of preserved rodents, amphibians, birds, and reptiles. Maybe coming here was a mistake.  |

“I can bring them back,” they whisper against your neck, and it feels as though your scales stand on end. “For the small price of ten thousand gems… and your sanity.” They give you a toothy grin, their body closing in on you. “I highly doubt you'll need it anymore anyway, right? How does it sound? Is it worth it?” You swallow thickly, unable to move―or so you thought. Your lips and tongue begin to move, but it feels as though someone else is putting words into your mouth. “It is worth it.” Your voice trembles―that was not what you wanted to say. But somehow, you continue. “Please, bring them back. And I will pay the price, for all eternity.” A thunderous laughter fills the dark, dusty room, and you can see their sharp fangs glisten in the light of the liquid inside their stomach. Suddenly, the shelves begin to shake, and every dead creature sets its eyes on you. You feel lightheaded, you feel like you’re floating, you feel―… … Nothing. |
