Biography
|| CHIMERE ||
“a dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world”
Name Meaning:
an ethereal individual |
|
It began as the Ancients arose. A plague of nightmares spread across Sornieth, moving faster than it had any right to. Some were old memories, passed down from ancestors who had lived through the war-torn ages; some were family memories from much sooner, of those who had endured attacks from the other flights; some weren’t memories at all, but deep-seated fears that could too easily become reality. After three days, it seemed every dragon had the nightmares. After five, some could no longer tell the nightmares apart from their own memories. After seven, for some, the nightmares were more real than any memory. Weeks passed, and the situation was only getting worse - until a hatchling broke free of his egg and looked into his parents’ eyes, and in moments, they felt the dreams slip from their mind. They remembered truth, now. They remembered what was real. A second hatchling of such power was born soon after, and she helped her clan the way he helped his. In time, they moved on, each determined to heal all of Sornieth single-handedly if they had to. As they went, they discovered a second ability: they could alter and replace dreams, turning them from howling nightmares to things soft and sweet. They found one another in the Sunbeam Ruins. Both of them had come to a clan in the Beacon of the Radiant Eye; when they learned they had the same abilities, they started talking more seriously, and in the end, they asked the clan leaders for permission to join, to stay and have hatchlings of their own. Their guesses were right - their descendants inherited a share of their powers, weakened though they were. It would take time for them to help others with the nightmares, and more effort, but they could do it. The question now is… will they? |

A lady was married into Eire Tundra in concedence with her fate as a purifier. There could be no greater a gift to secure an alliance than a dragon who brought along with her the power of sweetened dreams. Her partner was unknown to her before she made the trip from the Radiant Eye to the Snowsquall Tundra. It was the farthest she'd ever traveled, and the first time in her short life that she would be away from her family. It was enough to make her resent her fate as a glorified dream catcher, cursing the dragon that would take her as a trophy. When she arrived, though, things were not all that she expected. There was something off about the territory that she could feel as soon as she landed. When she touched her feet to the ground, a jolt of energy seemed to climb up her legs and into her spine. It was uncomfortable, but perhaps she just wasn't used to the cold. She met a handsomely dark Imperial on her way in, and he lead her to the Queen's greeting room. Her unease has been growing ever since she had fallen into step behind the Imperial, but as soon as she met eyes with the regal-looking Skydancer, all the strength left her body and she collapsed. |

She awoke in an unfamiliar room, the Queen gazing down at her with empty eyes. She got a strange feeling that the Queen wanted to feel pity for her, but couldn't bring herself to. Chimere righted herself and politely bowed before taking a seat on the edge of the bed. Without missing a beat, the Queen brushed over her fainting spell and got straight to logistics. Cyther was to be her husband. He was a member of the Aristocratic Faction, currently serving as an adviser but soon to be trained into knighthood. The Queen explained everything patiently, answering Chimere's questions dutifully. When the consultation session was over, Chimere was left dumbfounded. Everything had gone smoothly, but something felt very, very wrong. She stopped the Queen with a word, and asked the question that had been on her mind since the very beginning: what is wrong with your eyes? She hated the surprised look the queen gave her, as if she was especially astute to have noticed. Perhaps the other dragons were more afraid of her than they seemed, for them to have sated their curiosity for so long. To Chimere, this was an elephant in the room. To others, though, it wasn't so. The Queen explained her situation clearly and patiently, just as she had done earlier in their conversation. Most of the dragons in the clan didn't know this, but because Chimere was able to recognize it so clearly, the Queen spilled her secret. Perhaps she was tired of suffering through it on her own, or perhaps she felt Chimere wouldn't use the information against her. Either way, she explained that she was the sponge sucking up the residual chaos energy planted in their Middle Tundra territory. While her explanation was brief and left more questions than answers, Chimere understood why she had felt such discomfort. She notified the Queen that she would not be able to live with her husband in the center territory, and she would need to construct a new home on the outskirts. The Queen understood her intentions from just that and gave her an approving nod. Since then, Chimere has been living in a new home at the warmer edge of the territory. The Queen had sent her wood and metal workers for her to command, so she had them build her a residence reminiscent of the architecture back in her homeland. She figured this was the Queen's repentance, and she accepted the unsaid apology with a grin. She attends the monthly Temple Gathering to do her duty as Dream Dragon, but spends her days either in her home writing or with the other clan recluse, Iwona. Cyther does not visit her. The Queen comes to visit her regularly for meals or chats. Chimere can feel the her deep-seated guilt towards the Imperial, but her loneliness has started to slowly disappear, and she has grown more fond of the Queen than she originally thought possible. After their meal, Chimere will sit with the Queen and place a claw on the soft flesh between her eyes to draw out little strands of energy at a time. This has become a weekly occurrence between the two, and Chimere has noticed the Queen becoming ever-slightly more sociable. |
