Estos is the faithful servant of [name], the Freshwater Goddess. His role is to keep sources of freshwater sparkling clean and pure. In freshwater ecoregions, he resides over montane freshwaters. Out of all the Goddess' servants, he is the only one who was a human originally. Estos once lived in a highly spiritual rural village on the outskirts of the city. The lake nearby was constantly getting polluted one way or another, so Estos and a few other villagers took time out of their day to be on clean-up duty. Estos was the most dedicated to this task, and one could always find him employing his best efforts to clean the lake on any free time he had, regardless of time. However, he became a victim of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Night had already fallen for the evening, and Estos was finishing up gathering the last piece of trash before he'd head in the for the night. Unbeknownst to him, an assailant was lurking in the shadows of the trees. The assailant was a chain serial killer who traversed the country unscathed, a heavy bounty placed on his head for the one who could capture him. The man was well-known for his MO of symmetrical slashings. He took Estos by surprise, muffled his screams, and took his life that night by the bank of the river. Any last marks were inflicted after his death as Estos bled out heavily into the lake. For such a small rural community, it was odd for a villager to be missing the next day. It was also odd when the pumped water had a new metallic taste to it. Estos was discovered in the mid-morning, and it was Lyseria who cried the hardest. The Freshwater Goddess was livid. Here was a decent land-dweller who devotedly tried to keep her waters clean, and another had gone and stolen his life. She took pity on Estos and gave him a second chance by combining his spiritual essence with the essence of the world. She allowed him to retain his memories in hopes that doing so would retain his passion for keeping the lake clean. As a physical remembrance to Estos, the goddess used her power to make red flowers bloom along the bank where he died. In his spiritual form, the location of his gills are a remembrance of where he was slashed at. Estos has never been more thankful that Lyseria - his lovely significant other at the time - is a priestess. She would not have been able to recognize his spiritual essence and believe it was truly him if she wasn't. Estos is also thankful that he gets to "live" again. (Though watching his own body be burned was certainly a weird experience) He never shirks his duty of cleaning montane freshwaters, and travels around the world to do so. Of course, he holds a bias towards the lake of his hometown. Whether on the spiritual or physical plane, he spends most of his time there hanging around the water, wandering town, or simply spending time with Lyseria. A favored topic is his adventures of him traveling about, such as the sights he sees. Surprisingly, it was the head priestess that pushed the idea of marriage between Estos and Lyseria the most since she "wanted to do what make the deity's spirit most happy." While marriage is normally accepted in the temple anyway, it was the union with a spirit that made it unique. Neither Estos nor Lyseria had any qualms about the marriage, and it soon became big news. Lyseria being pampered to the extreme for the wedding made Estos extremely pleased as well. Wouldn't want to make the spirit of the deities unhappy after all. Some time after their marriage, the topic of children arose and how such a feat would be possible. Through multiple bouts of experimentation, Estos shared and combined his spiritual essence with hers in hopes there would be some chance of it working. And through some miracle, it eventually did. The news of Lyseria's pregnancy - a pregnancy by a deity's spirit nonetheless - spread like wildfire, and a huge celebratory feast was thrown for them. When she finally gave birth, the happy couple were lavished with gifts. The process was repeated every time she became pregnant. With so much high-leveled spiritual energy imbued into them, these children had a longer lifespan than the average mortal. However, like Lyseria, they too will eventually wither away. The tale of Estos and Lyseria became a well-known one throughout the generations. It eventually became a holiday gave blessings to couples and hope to those whose relationships were seen as nearly impossible. On the anniversary of their wedding, many often come to the (now largely expanded) town to place offerings at the temple. It is also said to be good luck for couples to make offerings at the temple together. If one's lucky enough to catch him while he's in town, they may also spot him fluttering across the lake.
