No one could ever want me.
It was the simplest fact of existence. Alone since the first days of my birth. Ever-haunted by the rising of the crimson moon, that damnable prophecy that had stolen what blighted memory I had of a nest. Of a rookery where maybe, at some brief moments before my birth, someone had desired me to live. No one else ever had, for as long as I could remember. In the endless years that slid past my life, my existence had burned down to a single smoldering ember of hatred that refused to die, raging ever-still against the darkness. The bitter cold of an existence where no one could ever care for anyone else, not unless it was a selfish attempt at respite from the endless winter. I was so furious. At everyone who had ever betrayed me. At everything that made me unworthy of the warmth seen in others. A dirty, good-for-nothing bloodied cursed one, outcast from a society that could never accept what fate had seen me become. And you wanted me to become yours. So yours, I became. |
