  • Primary Skink OR Savannah: Oilslick > Coal
  • Secondary Trail: Coral -> Sand
  • Tertiary Runes: Coral -> Goldenrod
  • Wildclaw Only

There are currently no 'registry' requirements. You may feel free to consider an applicable wildclaw a Sunclaw Condor, or the other variants! Be sure to post in the thread if you'd like to be added to the showcase registry. Reaching level 25 with a Sunclaw Condor elevates them to a leader of a 'Wake,' and they will be given a special spot at the top of the showcase!

It was the dawning of the blood moon, the quiet of the night broken by distant calls of predators and the song of the nightbirds. It was the sweat on the fortune teller’s brow as she quietly told the sheriff that somethin’ bad was comin’ on the wind. Something that stank like fresh blood.

Well the sheriff ‘round here is damn superstitious and he did a mighty fine job of sendin’ scouts and patrollers, but ain’t nobody gonna stop a hungry woman with a devil in her heart.

Calamity, they call her, part of her arrivin’ bein’ the herald of some sort of apocalypse only read in legends. Towns standin’ empty, good folk fled into the desert, new graves dug in the wake of her indomitable hankerin’ for meat - real meat. The meat that bites back when you sink your claws in. The kinda dinner that you let fight a bit before it tires out and gets tasty.

And when she kills, they flock to ‘er. Condors, they is. Damn scavengers cleanin’ the bones of good men. Wicked wings tanned from the mighty sun, runes ripplin’ cross their hides that speak of some secret power ain’t nobody got any business havin’, and those claws. Lightweaver, protect us from those claws o’ theirs that do stink of unholy infections. Once they catch you clean, you ain’t makin’ it to the doc’s office, partner.

They’s different, these condors. Ain’t accordin’ to no stories read by the sick ones down yonder. They gots the eyes, yes, the look, the blood, the claws - but there’s somethin’ otherworldly about their yowl. Whatever hell thunders from their lungs is fire and lightnin’ strikin’ right across your mind till all you think about is hidin’ back under your mama’s bed.

You ain't got a chance, partner.

Primary Skink OR Savannah: Oilslick > Coal
Secondary Trail: Coral -> Sand
Tertiary Runes: Coral -> Goldenrod

  • > Created by the match of an outlaw and an Effluvial Crow, they style themselves after the bird of the wild plains and vast prairies, the scavenger that functions both as an omen and a problem. Condors, they call themselves - both for their social preference for lingering after battles to pick clean bones, and their ominous presence.
  • > Condors collect in groups called “Wakes.” They follow in the footsteps of battle and often cause it themselves due to their unique strain of the trademark contagion from their Crow bloodline. They adhere to a strict pecking order: those with red wings are first to feast, and the sun-tanned browns clean up what’s left.
  • > Their silhouettes are distinctive thanks to a trademark of the Condor subspecies - they wear masks, crowns, and hats to cover their faces from the sun.
  • > Contagion effects: Vivid auditory-visual hallucinations occur briefly after infection. They are unique in that they share a common theme: victims will decry ‘the river’ and unknown, horrifying enemies, and begin fighting with anyone nearby until a real battle begins.
“The river drowns the light!”
--- A deputy shortly before succumbing to battle-lust.
“Bloodless crows, they walk upon the water of the river!”
--- Merchant shortly before causing an uproar.
  • > When no battle can be found, the infected will succumb to the hallucinations and often try to find nearby bodies of water, where they will sit and stare in reverence until the infection runs its course.
  • > All Condors adhere to ‘the river’, whether it is the product of the virus or a product of the Condors themselves is not known. If ‘the river’ wills it, Condors will throw their winnings into a body of water to repay an unknown ‘debt’ that holds over them. At the end of their life, Condors do not feed on one another - they instead give the body to a river.
  • > Effluviant Crow blood runs through them strongly, meaning they have the same dark, sleek bodies of their ancestors and adorning feathers. The unusual brightness of their runes shines above the plain to strike fear in the locals. While red-winged Condors are higher in the pecking order, the brightness of the runes plays a minor, secondary part in their rulings.
  • > Condors without a majority of Crow blood are smaller, more flighty, and prone to a cowardly way of life. They solely scavenge, rarely making contact to start the battle themselves. The stronger the Crow blood, the more likely one is to simply infect others and cause the problem themselves until a feast is laid out.
  • > Condors are native to the Sunbeam Ruins and the sun-baked plains that are nearby. They rarely leave the prairie and plains, with Crowblood Condors never sighted in forests or further within. Condors who have been kicked out often seek sanctuary deeper in the Lightweaver’s domain and align themselves with the rare clans willing to take them in.
  • > Condors have a thunderous and terrifying call. It resounds from their lungs and can be heard for miles, striking fear into prey and attracting mates among their fellows. Evolutionary purpose may be to make their prey gather weapons and prepare for battle ahead of infection, making it more difficult and more of a prestige of ‘proving oneself against an armed foe’. It is considered a severe slight and a sign of weakness to prey upon those who cannot fight back.
  • > Much like outlaws, Condors spend their lives on the run. Yet they do not flee from normal Sheriffs, - no, those are prey - but they flee from infection by a corrupted version of themselves. Something about the sunbaked land they roam has infested certain Condors, leading them to hatch a sanctified hatchling. No one can discern the true cause - though Condors believe that lingering in the sunshine too long can cause irrevocable harm...
DQO6ODH.png
Social
  • > ‘Wakes’ form around one particularly strong Condor with vivid runes and red wings. Standings are held only by those who can provide for the rest of the wake - if the leader is unable to stir up enough trouble to keep everyone well fed, a new leader is chosen by virtue of their ability to provide. Very rarely, a brown-winged and lesser Condor may be able to cleverly claim leadership through consistent feedings of their wake.
  • > Condor are aggressively distrustful of anyone who is not of their breed, including other Crow-types from distant lands. While they may be kin, their lack of respect for the mysterious ‘river’ drives an unbridgeable divide between blood-lines. Often, they are looked down upon by the larger and more aggressive of their cousins as simple, cowardly scavengers.
  • > It is almost impossible for a Condor to find solace in the presence of non-Condor, but not unheard of. Condor are quick-thinking and adaptable, which allows them to blend in with other cultures and dragons - just don’t expect them to disrespect the ‘river’ or forgo a meal stinking in the sun. Clans may be heavily distrustful of the Condors due to their unsettling appearance and rumored powers, often driving them off out of fear of their infection.
  • > In terms of family, Condors have very little connection to their young or their parents, almost always preferring the members of their wake, even if they are unrelated. Wakes each have different cultures and views of ‘the river’, varying wildly on their practices of reverence to the point of contest.
  • > Training in combat is held by real trials. Young are set out into locations with battles brewing and trained to light the spark. When wakes are fed and there isn’t anything on the schedule, they battle amongst each other in duels that honor traditions relating to ‘the river’, often wetting their claws in a river or washing themselves after a fight.
  • > When a light-infused Condor egg is laid, the egg is quickly sent away or even outright abandoned. Despite this, the hatchling survives on sunlight alone and becomes a horrifyingly beautiful, corrupted version of the original. These 'Sanctified Condors' hunt the others, seeking to turn them into soulless vessels of pure light who have no concept of 'the river.'

DQO6ODH.png
Courting

  • > All courtship rituals proceed by a river. Mating dances include splashing water on their wings and shaking until droplets fall like rain. They do a quick step ‘dance’ to imitate the social gatherings of their prey. Mates are usually chosen by virtue of the dance, the reverence to the river, and finally: their call. Louder and more fiery calls are prioritized over weaker, warbly ones. A Condor without a voice must try twice as hard for a slim chance at victory.
  • > Condors have their own unique culture of courting, forgoing the traditions of crows. Shining river rocks are given in elaborate rituals. The most impressive rock is ground down and pressed into a locket hung around the Condor’s throat. Other presents include fresh meat, tasty bones, or shiny trinkets mostly made from gold taken from the deceased.
  • > Condors bond the same way they choose their wakes: those who can provide are proven to be the better mate. Work is shared equally. When one watches the nest, the other gathers enough food to prove their worth. If a mate can no longer provide, it is not unheard of for a new pair to form instead -- but Condors rarely, if ever, leave their first partner, even staying past injury, age, or other circumstances.
  • > The commandments of ‘the river’ that the wake follows is the social structure for that wake. Extraordinary circumstances may even be the procurement of specific trinkets to the point of obsession, or bizarre courtship rituals seen no where else. Only a few similarities exist, one of them being that it is disrespectful of ‘the river’ to change one’s course once it is decided. This makes wakes more likely to stay together and choose new leaders instead of falling apart, and mates are more interested in their first partner than in choosing another.
  • > Personalities between Condors have a few commonalities. Patience is seen as a highly valuable virtue, due to the caution involved in waiting for the perfect battle to erupt for a large enough feast for the entire wake. A clever mind is prioritized over bulk strength - while a larger Condor may be able to start a fight easily, a clever Condor will start one consistently.
  • > Wake structure is roughly divided into a few simple parts. The leader has the job of planning attacks and seeing the wake fed. Scouting Condor have the job of being the leader’s eyes and ears. Warrior Condors may do the work of the leader and infect the chosen population. Condors will work together not only out of necessity for feeding the wake, but by the same river-driven principle: stay the course.

  • Condors have a distinctive silhouette due to their tendency to wear masks, crowns, and hats to keep them cool in the blazing sun.
  • Wake leaders adorn themselves with bird skulls and vibrant style, echoing the reds of their Crowborne cousins.
  • Lockets signify that the Condor is taken, and has encased a special river rock inside that was given by their chosen.

Hoard:
  • Condors vary differently in their hoards. The eccentricity of their blood and their adherence to the mystical 'river' means the variation between hoards of certain Condors can be wide as a mile. Some hear the 'river' whisper that they must collect socks, others are avid keepers of books and scrolls.
  • Raptor Effigies and river-polished stones are almost always collected.

Sanctified Condors
DQO6ODH.png
"Get rid of it!"

"I-I can't. It's... so beautiful..."

Somehow, Condor blood has been twisted due to their location. Though many speculate the true cause, rumors whisper that it may be retribution for their very nature.

Sanctified Silverclaw

They are the beauty of the light, the carriers of the Sun. Their light infection has become pure, giving it a silver color for their soul being absorbed into the opal.

Sanctified Silverclaws have no soul, no concept of the sacred 'river' that most Condors adhere to. They seek only to purify the corruption they see in other Condors, hunting them ceaselessly across the prairie...

  • Sanctified Silverclaws are incredibly rare. Most times the infection stops when the Condor is turned into a Sunclaw. To go past is to be particularly powerful and infused.
  • Contagion: Infection by a Silverclaw makes one lose their sense of self and gifts a strong desire to sunbathe until the burns turn into a corruption in the veins, an opalization of the flesh into bright and vibrant color. They lose their runes and the connection to 'the river'. Their contagion has been known to infect those who are not Condors as well, making them a well-known menace.
  • Social: Sanctified Silverclaws have no social class. They have no voice, and do not seek to interact. Sometimes they will remember echoes and find a shade of something inside...

They are the hatchlings of Condors, but the light has overtaken them almost completely. They maintain some level of awareness, some shadow of a soul, but - if they are particularly unlucky - it will be consumed inside the opal that claims their flesh.
  • Contagion: Exactly the same as Silverclaws, but known to only infect Condors.
  • Social: They are known to have mates and some semblance of grouping, though they tend to follow Silverclaws mindlessly across the plains.

They are Condors who have begun to succumb to infection by sunlight. Their voice becomes ragged, desperate, as they howl for other Condors to try to find their way back into the Wake.

They never do.

  • Contagion: Hallucinations of bright colors and a strong desire to sunbathe, or even to stare directly into the sun. The result is not blindness, but induces quicker infection and a higher rate of hatching new Heretical Condors.
  • Social: They can find no home in their former Wake, joining instead the entourage of a Silverclaw until they become one with the light.
