Venus, Priestess of the Lightweaver

lightmidsmall.png

[Not Finished]

Through her youth, Venus trained at a monastery located at the base of the Beacon of the Radiant Eye. During her training, she developed something of a rivalry with Vaille, who was destined to be her partner upon their graduation. While they both climbed through the ranks under the watchful eyes of the monks, their power grew, and they would spar from time to time. As priests of the Lightweaver, their duties would be to spread Her light and to aid in the fight against the darkness.

During their sparring sessions, Venus never once won against Vaille, but the constant defeat did not dissuade her from her path. When she came under the tutelage of the elder monk, the highest of their order and a council member of the Lightweaver herself, the weight of the honor was heavy on her shoulders. Nearly all the trainees looked upon her with respect but a shadow of distaste in their auras, jealous of her position--but none so much as Vaille himself. His upset led to his graduation being delayed by a whole year, but Venus did not leave the monastery without him; after all, they were to be partners. Despite being fully prepared for it, she denied her own graduation and informed the elders that she would wait for Vaille, which seemed to fuel his anger towards her.

While Vaille was reprimanded and taken back through the regulations of the monastery, Venus spent her time growing stronger. She asked of the elders to grant her better knowledge of the darkness they would fight, and in turn, they pointed her towards the library, to ancient tomes and dusty scrolls that told of an ancient enemy. According to legend, the Shade was defeated long ago, but the tomes told of traces of it that remained on Sornieth, of its ability to corrupt the land, the flora, and even the inhabitants of the planet themselves. The scrolls whispered of its presence even in the bright land of the Sunbeam Ruins, theories placing the blame on it for the gripping darkness of the Hewn City itself. The stories chilled her, and after a whispered prayer to Lightweaver, she retreated to the warmth of the central chamber and basked in sunlight until it faded for the day.

From that day on, she practiced more with her magic; already she was a rather skilled healer, lacking only true experience in the field. While she worked to bolster these existing skills, she also trained more to be able to assist properly in the event of an altercation. For that year, she rarely saw Vaille as she threw herself fully into her training, exhausting her body beyond use in an effort to become stronger a few times. When she did this, the monks would warn her against it; if she were unable to fight in a real battle because of fatigue, what would she be proving?

After that, she took more care--stopping before she was too weary, allowing her magic reserves to replenish themselves, working on more precise attacks, and meditating in sunlight at every opportunity. Her routine was vigorous, keeping her mind and body distracted even while she slept. Before she knew it, she stood beside the elder monks, watching on as Vaille was bathed in sunlight, blessed by Lightweaver herself. They stood on an altar built atop the monastery, the location untouched by shadows of any kind aside from the occasional cloud blocking the sun or flock of birds overhead. Today, the clouds stayed away, a sign of favor from Lightweaver. His robes and beads were swapped out, and as the monks chanted softly around him, the tiny baubles on his new strand glowed brighter in approval.

The day following his graduation, the pair left the monastery, finally released unto the world. It was exciting to finally be traveling the world, but even still, they had an agenda to keep. On their way out, a monk had offered a map to Venus, certain locations marked on the parchment for them to visit and lend their aid where appropriate. With an Emperor on the loose and fights breaking out among clans, there was plenty they had left to do before they could even leave the Sunbeam Ruins. Thankfully, other duos and teams would be wandering around as well, helping to cover ground, so at least they were not alone.

Within a day, they had arrived at their first destination; a small clan that had been ravaged by the Emperor. Their trip so far had been silent aside from the sounds around them, but upon stepping onto the clan's territory, Vaille moved faster, seeking out the leader of the clan on his own. Venus lagged behind, checking to see if anyone was in need of healing; as it turned out, the clan healer was in over his head and beyond exhausted from his efforts. Without hesitation, she took over for him and sent him off to rest along with his apprentice, working well into the night. Eventually, Vaille returned to her side, silent for a long time while she worked. When she was in between patients, he quietly spoke to her. "There is not much we can do here beyond blessing the dead, healing the wounded, and requesting supplies. It did not leave much behind."

She nodded as she prepared a roll of bandages, her claws already glowing with healing energy. "Thank you, Vaille. We will do what we can with Lightweaver's blessing."
