They had never known a proper home. From the moment of their birth, they were left at an orphanage within the walls of Ibina. Perhaps their parents had hoped that by leaving them at such a small institution, they would escape the peering eyes of judgmental humans. Unfortunately, no such luck befell the poor demihuman.

In such a small space, populated only by humans, being the only odd one out made Misa the product of much scrutiny. Their peers would constantly jeer at them, mocking them for their differences, calling them things like toad and disgusting frog. Misa's peers would pinch and pull at the webbing between their fingers, dump water on them at every available opportunity, but for some reason, the thing that hurt the most were the mocking goat noises that they would croon at Misa every time they passed by. They were too scared to tell them to stop, and day after day they hoped beyond hope that the adults who ran the orphanage would do something to aid them, but they merely turned a blind eye.

Once, on the eve of their 18th birthday, Misa came to find that someone had left goat eyes placed in the middle of their pillow. Horrified, they had finally reached the end of their rope. By that evening, Misa had fled from the only place they had called home, searching for somewhere that would finally accept them for what they were. The only true friend they have found thus far was an unnamed blacksmith, who took pity on the creature, and created for them a golden mask with which they could hide their face away from the hateful world.
