Biography

IIn the face of doom, spit on it.

Gender: Cis Female
Age: Mature
Occupation: Clan Magister
Hometown: Blight Sanctum, Scarred Wasteland

Old, wise, and infinitely grumpy. Sorcery doesn't mingle much with others of nature clan. Most don't actively seek out her company, mostly because she has an eerie habit of uncovering the darkest secrets of everyone around her and learning their greatest flaws, fears, and insecurities. She rarely does anything with this information she gathers simply by staring long and hard at others, but her opinions of everyone is vastly lower than most would wish. Her perpetual frown is full of judgement towards everyone around her, so most keep their distance. The only dragon she is remotely warm towards is Arilo, the only other plague aligned dragon. Arilo, who is far more friendly than Sorcery, is the one to bring conversation to their meetings. She never seems to find the pearlcatcher's grouchy demeanor. With every tidbit of information in mind, it is a fair assertion to make that Sorcery is an unusual pearlcatcher. She even lacks a pearl that gives the breed their moniker, and doesn't appear to care about its absence.

Sorcery's role in the clan is rather ironic. A plague dragon that oversees all of the work and magic in a nature based clan is the last combination one would imagine. Sorcery herself believes it's a crude joke.

S T O R Y

No one knows Sorcery's past very well. She's a plague dragon with a negative opinion of her own flight... as well as a negative opinion of everyone for that matter. She keeps her story close, as she's ashamed of what her life was before the clans.
Early Life
Sorcery was born a single hatchling in a nest built with bones and scabs. Her parents, Wisp especially, were initially elated that their egg hatched. Their son had long since left the nest and tried tirelessly since then to raise another baby. However, Sorcery was born underweight and sickly. In any plague clan, weak hatchlings were abandoned in the wilds, but her mother desperately fought for her daughter's life. In exchange for Sorcery's life being spared, Wisp and Sorcery were made into outcasts. Wisp's mate abandoned them to retain his status, leaving them to fend for themselves in a clan that mocked them relentlessly. Wisp resented her daughter with a passion the older she became, but ever the more frail she remained. Frequently bullied by other hatchlings, Sorcery sought out solitude to practice her plague magic. She quickly learned how to make her own friends using the fleshy ground and abundant carcasses strewn about the Blight Sanctum, putting a little bit of her own energy into these flesh golems. Before her adult teeth sprouted in her mouth, Sorcery had a strong understanding of casting blood magic and necromancy without even realizing it was an actual practice. Her 'friends' didn't talk or play with the fledgling, but they protected her from bullies, so she considered them her closest allies.
Inciting Incident
The night Sorcery became old enough to be considered an adult, she and her mother had an explosive argument which led to Wisp smashing Sorcery's pearl into shards. Wisp, still in a fury, chased her only daughter out of the clan and to the borders of the Scarred Wasteland. In a fit of pent of heartbreak and contempt, her mother snarled that she was repulsed by Sorcery's cowardice and refusal to fight like a true plague dragon. Every night, she prayed to the Plaguebringer that Sorcery would prove the clan wrong and earn her respect back, which never happened. She hated that she loved her, and wished she just never hatched like so many of her siblings. As far as she was concerned, Sorcery was an embarrassment to the plague flight, and dead to her. She told Sorcery to find her own place in the world, for if she ever came back, that was enough of a reason for Wisp to rip her throat out herself. She left the Scarred Wasteland in search of a purpose.
Adulthood
Life was a relative blur for Sorcery. For decades she drifted along Sornieth aimlessly. Many clans turned her away, disgusted and mortified by the very taboo blood magic Sorcery was so skilled at. She had grown to learn all about the other elements of dragon-kind, despite not having the means to use it. She used her knowledge to advise young mages and mentor them in exchange for a living space. Her last apprentice was a young pearlcatcher by the name of Seimon, one who found his way into her teaching in a similar way she was raised. She pitied him, but also saw herself in him. Seimon stuck with Sorcery for the longest of all her protégés, and learned blood magic from her. It was while they were traveling that they found themselves in the city, and Asha of Runesight clan was impressed by his knowledge in healing using blood magic. He went to live in Runesight without much of a say towards Sorcery.
Current
Sorcery was deeply hurt by him choosing a doe eyed yearling over the dragoness he had learned everything from in the years they traveled together. She saw him as her own son, and became exceedingly bitter over this parting. In a way, she knew he would eventually leave- but not to go play doctor and especially not so soon. It was while she was leaving the city that she was approached by nature clan's leader, and asked to stay a while longer. Sorcery very reluctantly stayed, only to see if it was worth her time. Weeks go by before it is discovered that she was incredibly knowledgeable in all elements, including the nature flight. Chosen by the leader to be the overseer of nature clan's magical aspects, the old pearlcatcher begrudgingly accepted her role.
