Lapis

Lapis woke up one day to see a beautiful young dragonet gazing at him. He stretched his wings and yawned, shaking the eggshells off his wings. Seeing no one else around who could care for him, his instinct told him to follow her. Together they stayed, fending off predators with their ferocious squawks and growls, eating mice, and chasing each other's tails. Then, three days later, he heard something new: Wingbeats, steady and strong. He looked up and saw a dragon soaring over them. She landed and introduced herself as April. April had a bag with her. He cocked his head curiously at the bag while Lazuli sniffed it. April, who seemed to be only a few days older than them but very strong, laughed and offered to carry them to her home. They agreed and clambered into the bag, one squeaking when the other stepped on his tail. As April took off, Lapis peaked his head out and watched as he gradually left the whispers of the trees and the fear of hunger and predators. He turned and rested his head on Lazuli, who put her wings around him.
They were safe.
