Pitch knew that Raine had allowed him in to the clan just because of his triple obsidian genes that she deemed beautiful, but he was more grateful to her than offended. The other clans hadn't taken him in for they thought he was the devil reincarnated, and that had hurt him more than anything else.

But Raine had called him beautiful, and taken him in instead of chasing him away, and for that he was grateful. But when he discovered that she had thrown her own children out into the wild just because they were deemed ugly, Pitch's memories of being kicked out from clans came gushing back at him. Raine was the same as every other clan leader after all.

Burning with anger, Pitch sought to claim the position of the clan leader and change the way the clan worked. He would take any dragon in and he would care for them all.
