Vail

Loving | Queen of the Toxic Wastes | Denmother

There are those who would wonder what a Lightning dragon is doing as Queen of a Plague clan, but Vail's elemental alignment has never affected her ability to lead as necessary. Much like her mate, King Andiron, Vail actually has little desire to rule with an iron claw; she would much rather approach her clanmates as equals, only rising above when absolutely necessary. Those close to her and Andiron know that she commands the same amount of authority he does - she just chooses to spend her time as more of a caretaker, rather than a leader.

Stonewatch Harpy Early on in the days of the Toxic Wastes, when Andiron and Vail were simply flirting with one another and the lair was little more than a hole in the ground, ahandful of Beastclan groups took interest in them as a potential target. Mira, the Stonewatch Harpy who now accompanies Vail,
was a scout for one such group. Before she could return to her matriarch with news of the tiny clan's poor defenses, she was taken out of the air by Eos and turned into a prisoner. Wounded in the brief fight, Mira wasn't doing well - so Vail began to tend to her. Shocked that a dragon would be so kind, Mira opened up to Vail about the hardships of Talonok life. By the time her wounds had healed, she was prepared to help the clan, rather than hinder it; more specifically, she wanted to help Vail in whatever way she could, to repay her for her kindness. Mira completely switched alliances, abandoning the Talonok and choosing to spend her days in the nursery with Vail, protecting and entertaining dragon hatchlings. The two are srtill close friends to this day, and MIra is a common sight in the Toxic Wastes.

Backstory

Vail was the fourth dragon to become a member of the Toxic Wastes - in other words, the first dragon besides its founders to join. She had appeared as if from nowhere, young and full of energy that could be attributed to her home flight. Andiron was initially wary of her becoming a part of his new clan; she was, after all, an Imperial. And one of a different element, at that. Were they both to die, they would form a two-headed Emperor and wreak Plaguebringer-knows-what sorts of havoc.

Vail was surprisingly insistent, however. She was confident in her abilities to help build a lair, and had left her home clan in search of a new one to call her own. What had led her to the Scarred Wasteland was a mystery, though she did say she was somewhat interested int he Starfall Isles, leading to her discovery of the Toxic Wastes along the border.

In spite of Andiron's worries and complaints, Vail got to work on expanding the lair and taking care of Tox and Ankarv as though she already belonged. She quickly won over the other two; convincing Andiron, however, would clearly be more work. Yet if anyone was up to the task, it was Vail.

In time her usefulness and playful flirting would start to get to him - Andiron wore down, bit by bit, until he had all but fallen head-over-heels for Vail. The two would become mates, the King and Queen of the Toxic Wastes, and soon after had their very first clutch of hatchlings.

Vail proved herself to be an excellent mother while taking care of her eggs and, later, her children. She would confide in Andiron that she had always played the older sister role in her birth clan, and she was more than happy to care for hatchlings as the clan expanded. It suited her more than diplomatic affairs, in any case. From then on she would become the Denmother, caring for all eggs, hatchlings, and juvenile dragons within the clan while their parents went about their duties. She would also continue to have children with Andiron, mothering many heirs over the years.

Vennon, the only heir to stay in the clan, is Vail's pride and joy; she loves her son like no other, and treats him like a child even as he grows into a strong and capable young Prince. Luckily, he's a complete mama's boy.

Allies to the Toxic Wastes are very familiar with the kindness of Queen Vail. Not only does she send her children to allied clans as signs of peace - she also sends food, pets, clothing, and trinkets to leaders and their children alike as tokens of goodwill. Her cooking has become quite legendary across the Scarred Wasteland and beyond.
