Biography
__._ |
The daytime breeze had died down to a whispering piano: no roaring gust to sweep away the smallest of wings. The night was tranquil, undisturbed: no shrill screeches to pierce delicate ears. The air was warm, cozy even: no chilling cold to slither through the blood of young hearts...yet amidst such ideal conditions for a hatch, the nursery remained empty. No excited squeaking. No high-pitched squeals--not even the shuffle of tiny talons. Every single hatchling that once roamed within it--gone, ushered in by tentative nudges and concerned growls. All that remained was a single half-bloomed bud of a nature egg, lit by a lonely beam of moonlight. It was February 2, 2020. A palindrome, the first one in centuries...and in the realm of wind, the very realm accustomed to change, hatching on a day so constant was the equivalent...of sin. The dragons of the Zephyr Steppes watched. Waited. Listened. A silence--one almost impossible to be broken--ensued...until the sound. A single crackle, shattering the tense tranquility of the area. A single crackle, a sound as profound as the thunderous fall of a lightning-struck tree. A single crackle, as profound as the blazen winds of change. A single crackle...as profound as the newly made cracks creeping along the lone egg's shell. It was hatching--and perilously too soon. There was a sudden wave of furious murmurs. "Kill it. Kill it now, before the miserable wretch lives the cursed life it is bound to." "I'm not going near that monstrosity. It's not worth my attention! Someone else rid us of it!" "What if the hatchling turns demonic on us? How will anything stop him?" "If you're so clever, you get down there and kill it!!" "You seem to be eager to do it, too, though." "Never mind me; a beast is about to hatch! We can't just sit there! Zephyr, somebody--slaughter it! It deserves no life!" The skydancer dragoness, Zephyr, was hesitant. She, like everyone else, was scared: scared of the power, of the destruction--of the change--that a palindrome hatchling could bring. Gentle claws cradled the egg. Deep jade-green eyes regarded the bud, which had now bloomed into a gorgeous moonflower. Talons squeezed the shell, threatening to compress the hatchling within...before they relaxed at the softest touch--the shakiest breath of new life. The hatchling had emerged from it...and it was beautiful. In fact, it was so perfect it seemed more like an ideally carved statue than a dragon: a handsome, chiseled face, two fathomless pools of emerald green for eyes, and a pair of feathered wings so radiant they seemed to be made of gold. What was even more abnormal, though, was that it was eerily quiet. There was no usual cry. No usual scrambling. No racket at all...just the understanding gaze of those emerald-green eyes. Blinking. At her, as if they already knew all her sorrows, all her pains. There would be no more suffering. Zephyr placed the hatchling down. This was no monster. It was a life--one that was beautiful and intelligent, one just as worthy as keeping as the others. The chants of her comrades surrounded her. "What are you waiting for?" "Kill it! It will end us all!" The skydancer shook her head. "Look at his eyes. Look at them, and tell me if this is a creature sent to us by the Shade." A mirror snarled. "You've officially gone mad, Zephyr. I see green--the color of envy, the color of poison, of acid, of every terrible thing in between. If anything, he is the Shade itself!" A series of triumphant chattering backed him up. Zephyr flattened her feathers. "It's also the color of renewal, of new life alike--of change!" "Zephyr, if you don't dispose of him, I will, myself!" The hatchling stayed calm--calmer than ever. It continued to stare. Stare in silence...as if it knew that its death was inevitable, so there would be no point in having a voice to argue against it. A sob choked Zephyr's throat. Talons grasped the hatchling's body, dangling it over the steep cliff the group was perched on. If the hatchling was to have one chance at living, this was it. Something about his wings told Zephyr that he was a natural-born flyer...and he'd better be. Zephyr let go... and the hatchling was no more. . . . "Avis." The voice woke the hatchling from the crash-landing of his first untimely flight. A pair of shocked eyes. A ghostly, sky-blue face. A slender snout. "It means bird. A fitting name, don't you think? You soared right through the sky, youngster. Very impressive first flight, I must say! My name is Litri, and in my clan, you can fly free...like the bird you were named for." Those intelligent emerald-green eyes widened. And then his first phrase, a mere whisper: "Home?" » feels free when flying; nothing can catch him » loves his mother dearly, and protects her with his life » imbued with magic, but rarely uses it code & assets by archaic #19153 modified by me lore by aqualia | ___ |
