Biography
Cat Burglar "Really, there is nothing I can't take. I'm a master lockcracker and my fingers are as nimble as a cat-- and I'm not helping my case am I?" The thief asks of his jailer. Scout: Tobin's Mercenaries | Mate: ? | Story: WIP |
WIP Wordy Words go here. Lots of them most likely. Anyway, getting back to the point, that quote is stuck in my head. I just can’t get it out from between my ears. ‘The monsters in the darkness’. |

WIP You see things in the darkness; in the unyielding shadows that choke the Hewn City. You play it off as nothing and convince yourself that they are just the shadows messing with your eyes, with your mind, but you know. You know all about the monsters in the darkness. I know them well, much to my woe… I found that passage in Ezra’s playbook. If you are reading this, do not tell her I found her diary! I have no desire to be skinned if she figures out I read that! It’s a good read though, I recommend checking it out… if you’re stealthy enough not to be caught that is. Anyway, getting back to the point, that quote is stuck in my head. I just can’t get it out from between my ears. ‘The monsters in the darkness’. I know those monsters. Heck, most days I am one, it's how food and drink get in the belly after all. How else are we to survive the Hewn City if we do not yield to the unyielding darkness? After being born and raised in the shadows I always thought it was just the way life went. You do what you must to survive and don’t worry who gets in the way. I never questioned my place in the world. I never thought there could be an escape from the shadows, but perhaps there is. Ezra managed to get herself out of it. And let’s not forget Chima, somehow, some way she’s managed to land herself in a guild master’s position. Perhaps that means there is redemption available to me as well. Who knows, perhaps I can become as respectable as those two. For a moment Pyros turned away from the journal, his mind churning with grandiose notions of fame and respect. Suppressed snickers began to bust through his nose shortly thereafter. “Yeah right,” he whispered. Though, it seemed his softly spoken doubt was not soft enough, because the pair speaking from the next room came to a halt. Pyros fell painfully still as he waited for an indication of what was transpiring beyond his shadowed hidey-hole. “What is it?” A male voice emanated from beyond the door. “I don’t know,” Ezra responded. She was very close when she spoke. A moment later the door into his darkroom cracked open. The actress stuck her head inside, looking aimlessly around the shadows. “Hm? I guess it was nothing,” she said. A moment later Ezra opted to rejoin her guest and relieved herself from the doorway. Pyros gave it a minute then went back to his, or Ezra’s, journal. Maybe I can find a different life here too? I doubt it will ever be one as glamorous as Ezra’s or Chima’s, but it wouldn’t be that bad to have a simple life. Right? Maybe it’s something worth considering. For a short time he considered his own thoughts, a hopeful warmth growing in his chest. Movement in the other room reminded him of where he was and, sighing deeply, he closed his new journal, tucked it safely into his heavy bag full of glittery pretty things, and then hiked the haul to his shoulder. Just before he made for the window, he tossed a small bit of paper to the bed. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a white card with a skull and a star on it, but it was his signature and he was proud of it. It was his way of letting the marks know they had been visited by one of the best cat burglars in the business. As he was making his way out of the Diva’s bedroom he knocked on the window. It alerted the owner of the home, of course, but by the time she arrived he was already on his way. Pyros was almost to the next neighborhood when he heard Ezra screeching. “Deathstar! I will skin you when I find you!” Yeah, she always says that, he thought. A smile spread wide over his lips as he carried on to the next house. |
