Biography

Character Notes:

- Non-binary | They/Them

- A gravekeeper and the High Priest of [God of Death]

- Is in charge of performing rituals for the dead, blessing graves, leading worship for their patron deity, annointing new members (priests) into their Circle, relaying messages from dreams (as do all other high priests), and occasionally seeking information regarding their field for Zul'ravi royalty, or those rich enough to afford their costly services.

- Such knowledge seeking usually involves a spiritual, out-of-body journey (think astral projection) into the realm of the dead. This cross-realm projection leaves the body of the priest vulnerable, both physically, from threats in the world of the living, as well as those in the realm of the dead, otherwise known as the spirit realm, or A'llan. Some things in that other-place are powerful enough to pull the priest from their body entirely, if they aren't careful. Potentially wound their soul, ride the priest back into the world of the living, or consume their soul altogether. For this reason, a High Priest of [Deity] may choose to bring along equipment or a companion to aid them, particularly familiars with great spiritual power.

- Will lead the entire population of Zul'ravi in ritual on a few different occasions.

- First and most notable is for the death of an important figure, most typically royalty or another High Priest, in which the city gathers in reverence and below the temple terrace to listen to Vila'delle's chanting and remembrance speech. On the occasion of the death of royalty, the High Priest is bound by ritual to burn the king-root in a bonfire, which burns through the night until the next morning.

- On the occasion of a High Priest's death, Vila'delle will spread oil, blessed by their patron deity, in a circle before sitting in the middle. The oil will be lit aflame, and the High Priest will sit until daybreak, head down, claws together, and eyes closed, entirely silent. Each High Priest of [Deity] has a unique way of showing their respect to a fallen fellow, and Vila'delle's includes the removal of their ever-present mask, placed neatly before them with a belonging of the deceased High Priest. The High Priests and lesser priests of other deities may choose to join Vila'delle, for any amount of time, to pay their respects and wish the fallen priest well in the afterlife. They may even choose to leave offerings.
