It began as the Ancients arose. A plague of nightmares spread across Sornieth, moving faster than it had any right to. Some were old memories, passed down from ancestors who had lived through the war-torn ages; some were family memories from much sooner, of those who had endured attacks from the other flights; some weren’t memories at all, but deep-seated fears that could too easily become reality. After three days, it seemed every dragon had the nightmares. After five, some could no longer tell the nightmares apart from their own memories. After seven, for some, the nightmares were more real than any memory. Weeks passed, and the situation was only getting worse - until a hatchling broke free of his egg and looked into his parents’ eyes, and in moments, they felt the dreams slip from their mind. They remembered truth, now. They remembered what was real. A second hatchling of such power was born soon after, and she helped her clan the way he helped his. In time, they moved on, each determined to heal all of Sornieth single-handedly if they had to. As they went, they discovered a second ability: they could alter and replace dreams, turning them from howling nightmares to things soft and sweet. They found one another in the Sunbeam Ruins. Both of them had come to a clan in the Beacon of the Radiant Eye; when they learned they had the same abilities, they started talking more seriously, and in the end, they asked the clan leaders for permission to join, to stay and have hatchlings of their own. Their guesses were right - their descendants inherited a share of their powers, weakened though they were. It would take time for them to help others with the nightmares, and more effort, but they could do it. The question now is… will they? |

Fireflies weave through the forests with their dances, the faeries play with the wisps in the dead of night. The blues of the evening deepen to a royal purple slowly darkening as the night draws nearer. The peaceful night is calm as the creatures of the sun start to fall to sleep. As the sun sets, the full moon rises. The moonlight shines within her pale eyes. The stars dance in the night sky like candle flames. The evening air is crisp, refreshing, and soothing. Only the wind caresses through the forest, the waves crash along the coastline. Dreams flick and flitter within the night. Dancing the evening with illusions. All is calm. All is quiet. The dark dominates. Shadows lengthen and spread. Silence is deafening. Nightmares run rampant. Pages to a well worn journal rustle in the night, the calm pencil markings of dreams past and soon of dreams of the future. Notes of dreams and nightmares litter the pages. Like his sister, Grantley was given a old leather bound journal to record his notes. Unlike his sister, he wasn’t able to create the sweet dreams. He was however an expert in identifying nightmares and warping them to be more peaceful dreams. There are nights where he was jealous of his sister and her creative ability; however, thanks to their parent’s note within the first pages of his journal, he began to take pride in the ability he has. |

Nightmares are always interesting to Grantley. He traveled and was approached by many veterans like his sister. Some were disappointed when he didn’t have the same dream creative abilities like his sister; but hose plagued by vicious nightmares pleaded for his help, which he always accepted. He has fought various nightmares, took lessens from some witches to get a better understanding of dream and their meanings as well as the various supernatural creatures that are speculated to creating nightmares; from Jinns, Melinos, Bakus, and more. He has recorded all he has heard of and all he’s encountered personally. His strength against the supernatural has become stronger than his sister, stronger to fight against the nightmares. He came upon a dark forest. Darker than he has ever seen, almost darker than those within even within the Shadow territory...curious he ventured through. Instantly, the whispers start to call within the winds and shadows follow. Grantley wasn’t worried, he could feel his sister’s presence as well as the sense of dreamers. Then a shadow drew closer, “Who are you?” Grantley jumped in surprise and yet when he turned towards the voice, he saw no one. A light giggle rang as he tried to calmly replay, “I am Grantley. I have been gifted to control dreams and trained against nightmares.” Another laugh, “Nightmares you say? Interesting...” From the shadows, Grantley can see a figure morph into a young ghostly female. She looked at him curiously, “A being to eliminate nightmares? There’s always a steady balance between the nightmares and the dreams. To eliminate one could cause an imbalance.” “But I cannot create dreams, only edit them. My sister is the more talented one. I’m able to ease those with night terrors to help them sleep.” The female smiled and turned around sauntering, “I am Mara by the way and you, Mr. Grantley seem very intriguing. I’m sure Lorien would love to meet you as well. He always talks about needing assistance with his dreamwalking and helping those with trauma. Gates would also love some help from someone who’s attuned to nightmares.” Grantley was confused but silently followed her, as difficult as that was with her fading in and out of shadows, teasing him to scare him. The moment he approached the Gemini Clan’s inner section was when he encountered his sister, Roya. They caught up and decided to team up. Embracing the clan’s ways of balance. Grantley was amazed to see all the supernatural beings within the clan and knew his journal would be full in no time. He never felt more at home. |
