Biography
|| Roya ||
“Moonlight drowns out all but the brightest stars.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings
Name Meaning:
A vision from the dream |
|
It began as the Ancients arose. A plague of nightmares spread across Sornieth, moving faster than it had any right to. Some were old memories, passed down from ancestors who had lived through the war-torn ages; some were family memories from much sooner, of those who had endured attacks from the other flights; some weren’t memories at all, but deep-seated fears that could too easily become reality. After three days, it seemed every dragon had the nightmares. After five, some could no longer tell the nightmares apart from their own memories. After seven, for some, the nightmares were more real than any memory. Weeks passed, and the situation was only getting worse - until a hatchling broke free of his egg and looked into his parents’ eyes, and in moments, they felt the dreams slip from their mind. They remembered truth, now. They remembered what was real. A second hatchling of such power was born soon after, and she helped her clan the way he helped his. In time, they moved on, each determined to heal all of Sornieth single-handedly if they had to. As they went, they discovered a second ability: they could alter and replace dreams, turning them from howling nightmares to things soft and sweet. They found one another in the Sunbeam Ruins. Both of them had come to a clan in the Beacon of the Radiant Eye; when they learned they had the same abilities, they started talking more seriously, and in the end, they asked the clan leaders for permission to join, to stay and have hatchlings of their own. Their guesses were right - their descendants inherited a share of their powers, weakened though they were. It would take time for them to help others with the nightmares, and more effort, but they could do it. The question now is… will they? |

Fireflies weave through the forests with their dances, the faeries play with the wisps in the dead of night. The blues of the evening deepen to a royal purple slowly darkening as the night draws nearer. The peaceful night is calm as the creatures of the sun start to fall to sleep. As the sun sets, the full moon rises. The moonlight shines within her pale eyes. The stars dance in the night sky like candle flames. The evening air is crisp, refreshing, and soothing. Only the wind caresses through the forest, the waves crash along the coastline. Dreams flick and flitter within the night. Dancing the evening with illusions. All is calm. All is quiet. The dark dominates. Shadows lengthen and spread. Silence is deafening. Nightmares run rampant. Pages to a well worn journal rustle in the night, the calm pencil markings of dreams past and soon of dreams of the future. Notes of dreams and nightmares litter the pages. Roya calmly writes additional notes of the dreams and nightmares she encounters; the red ink being her own records. She has been helping those with trouble sleeping almost all her life, like her parents. When she was old enough to start her adventure, her parents gifted her a large leather bound book. The beginning pages held a message from her parents followed by the first recordings of her own dreams when she was young written in her parent’s handwriting. Memories are always sweet and she holds them close. |

It was then she began her travels, assisting those who are haunted by nightmares. Distant travelers, veterans of battles, and those who suffer from insomnia ... many started to seek young Roya for assistance. Her dreams eased those who cannot sleep, her control over nightmares and sleep helped everyone who suffered from them constantly. It wasn’t long till she stumbled upon the dark forest known as the Redwood. Surrounding clan’s claimed it haunted by supernatural beings. Travelers venture through and few return, but yet Roya felt something pulling her towards the woods. And so she did what many wouldn’t. It didn’t take long before she felt herself being watched, followed and yet she wasn’t afraid. She could feel a presence, a dreamer, someone plagued by ongoing nightmares. It was then she found a pale male, asleep in a makeshift camp. He tossed and turned, calling out into the night. She calmly rested her hand on his forehead and began to work. He calmed and began to breath more normally. She didn’t notice a tall male that walked behind her intrigued. He made himself known; “I’ve never seen another so attuned with dreams as myself and some in my family.” Roya quickly turned to find a dark male looming over her. Oddly enough, she was not frightened. “Who are you?” “I am Lorien. I am of the Witchborne lineage, as well as my clan’s Dreamwalker. Thank you for helping Lucian. He tends to wander through the woods sometimes when his nightmares return, to sleep without scaring the others with his sleep talk. I appreciate that you were able to help him when I was searching. Who may you be? Very few wander through our territory.” “I am Roya. My parents have trained me in our ability to control dreams. I’ve been traveling to help others.” Lorien smiled, “I see. No wonder the spirits accepted you so quickly. You’re an admirable being. I need to bring my friend home, would you care to join us to our clan? There are many who could use some assistance with sleep. Matcha, Hirael, and I could use some assistance.” Roya smiled as Lorien went to pick up his friend and silently followed him to the Gemini Clan. When she entered the large clan, it felt like she was finally home. |
