Somewhere Under Blacksand Annex....
He can hear his captors' outraged discussions even through the thick walls of basalt and obsidian and for the first time in centuries, he can laugh at them. His mouth is no longer frozen shut, wings freed from his mid-flight capture, even if huge chains have replaced them. If only he could light his prison, but the same problem that has afflicted his captors has also taken his fire from him. Still, in the dark, Mother's molten heat warms him through the stone beneath. How brutal and ignominious to be imprisoned in his home realm. Were he not bound, he could perhaps tunnel his way free, but the weights around his legs are too heavy for him, and nothing to his captors. He will have to wait. His wardens' problem entertains him in the sparsity of captivity. Having spent so many centuries so close to the Furnace, their own elemental alignments have shifted to that of their sworn enemy. Ironic. So many centuries in the dark has turned him to Shadow, as his first escape attempt began not with a gout of flame but a column of smog so dark even he could barely see through. It startled both sides enough that his try was foiled, and his limbs clapped in chains instead of the ice they could no longer form. He is far less bothered by his affliction. Flamecaller will still receive him should he escape. And Shadowbinder has seen fit to help him see the limits of his cell. He hums a little tune of vengeance, then stops to listen. They haven't done badly with the acoustics either. "...remain theoretical despite several centuries of testing. As imperials have proven, no amount of time in another flight's territory is enough to change elemental alignment. Proximity seems equally irrelevant, as many clans live in close proximity to their deity without adverse effects to those from other flights. Elemental saturation at time of birth is the only current factor, but it stands to reason that would not be the only one. Perhaps if a dragon were forced to subside on pure environmental magic, or a combination of deific proximity and susceptibility were at play, but such conditions have occurred before and still not provided examples to history that can be verified. gen2 banescale |
