Vanish was certain of few things growing up: everyone had a set role within the clan, leaving the caves was dangerous and not to be done, and all he wanted was to break the first two rules. He knew, deep in his bones, that the harsh life within the caves simply wasn't for him. Everyone had to be dedicated to production and supporting the clan and survival. But Vanish? Vanish wanted to create. He wanted to sing, play instruments, learn the tales of the world above and spread them far and wide for all to hear.

As a child, he often listened to tales his father would tell every night of the bright world. His father was an exception in the clan - a child of two former clan members who left the caves themselves, but Ekrem had returned home to the clan. Unfortunately, the tales he told as warnings to his children did nothing but increase Vanish's curiosity, and he became more and more convinced that a life in darkness simply wasn't for him.

When they were a bit older, Vanish learned that he wasn't the only one - it turned out that each of his siblings felt this same urge to go out and explore, and suddenly Vanish's lifelong dream seemed like a possible reality. It wasn't long after that he was packing up what few belongings he had - frivolities were few in the caves - and heading for the land above with his family.

It was hard at first - the sky seemed like it would eat him whole, the sun was so bright, the land seeming to stretch out into infinity in all directions. But Vanish had been dreaming of this opportunity, and he knew there was no turning back. He stuck with his family at first, acclimating to this new world, but one day he finally split off from them, traveling from clan to clan, hearing their stories. He tried instruments, first playing them poorly, then better, with practice. He learned the art of spinning words into entire worlds. He discovered everything he'd been dreaming about his entire life.

It was during his travels that he heard of a legendary temple, lost to the ages but recently restored. Intrigued, he tried to get more information of this place, and learned that, shockingly, there were no tales that dragons knew of - yet. Perhaps this could be his magnum opus? He could research this place, learn its secrets, and eventually write a song so beautiful, even the skies above would weep.

The night he learned of Starscatter Temple, he barely slept. He left before dawn the next morning.
