My time has come. Again.

Since I went into exile, I shunned all interaction with other dragons. Who knows how long I wandered, the pains I took to conceal myself?

My travels ended when I could go no further, when exhaustion at last weighed me down beyond all bearing. On the edge of Everlight's domain did Ashlar and Talamasca find me, coming back from one of their forays into the wild.

Only the Lord and Lady of Everlight knew the truth. It was Ashlar who created my disguise, clothing me in the likeness of a Fae, that most inconspicuous and vulnerable species of dragonkind. Talamasca called me Ray - an innocuous pseudonym, close enough to my real name without betraying my identity. Thus have I lived, safe in their care, secure in a home very unlike the glacial reaches in which I was hatched.

Until now.

The others of my kind have emerged from their icy solitude. Why have they awakened? Already two have entered Everlight - a Seeker and a youngling, both female, both running. From what do they flee?

Even as I ponder, a veritable horde approaches the borders of our territory. Not for war, no - only the creatures of Shade have ever faced our wrath - but for sanctuary.

There is no point in concealing my nature now, when this clan - my clan - faces the direst peril in its history.

Once more, let me be he who rebelled against Gaoler law.

I have hidden my true self long enough.
