Transmogrified Tinkerer "Art has a double face, of expression and illusion, just like science has a double face: the reality of error and the phantom of truth." |

The laboratory had been mostly dark, except for the flickering lantern near the doorway and the glowing chemicals and other materials that cluttered up the space. Various noises - from mechanical clicks to liquid squelching - had filled the area the wildclaw walked through. Every night he made sure that all of his experiments were put to bed and that nothing would overflow before morning. On that particular day, he stopped to admire his nearly-finished newest experiment. Professor was using the decaying body of an anonymous dragon he'd found in the wasteland, various contraptions to keep the body itself together and movable, many chemicals to preserve and strengthen the flesh, and magic to tie it all together with the science. The goal was an automaton that would be tireless and hopefully able to learn skills instead of being totally mindless. Tomorrow was the day. Stretching, TheProfessor turned to leave... but noticed that his assistant had left the top of the tank ajar. Grumbling about evaporating fluids, the inventor went up to the top to fix it. Unfortunately, the assistant apparently also left a puddle at the top and, unable to see the hazard in the near-dark, Professor ended up slipping and falling head first into his tank. The next morning, others came to check when they heard a shriek of mingled surprise, disgust, and fear from the assistant who had shown up for work and saw the living creature trying to get out of the tank. Much confusion was had while everyone was figuring out what happened and why. It's been a while since that day and things have calmed down. The Professor's living energies had touched off a reaction when he fell into the vat. Magic had latched onto another component to the creation and used Professor's life force to power it. His fresher body augmented the decaying one and everything nearly seamlessly blended together. His mind is still intact - in fact he actually can think faster and better than before due to not getting tired now - but his form is completely different. While Professor may look like some sort of monster, he is anything but. Sweet, friendly, outgoing, and willing to help others, the wildclaw is learning to live with his new body. Luckily outer form doesn't matter much at all in Chaotic Daydreams, so while Professor may get strange looks from outsiders, he is still loved and respected by his friends and family... and continues to work on his experiments - he's just very much more careful not to become part of one anymore. |
