Sphen

Sphen has had a tough time being born into a brood with Tua, a brother of hitherto unheard of abilities. Though he shares the attractive peacock genes, his are merely a pattern- as close to eyes as the peacock feathers they resemble. For a long while he subtly covered his wings, often in a thorny tangle, to distract and obfuscate without letting other dragons know of his negativity. After all, a cloak would be far too evident- and most inconvenient in summer. However, given time and companionship, as well as his brother’s commitment to sharing access to eye-bound psychic abilities, Sphen is finding his feet and establishing his own path. Quite literally; to compensate for a lack of innate gifts, he started experimenting with magical attire. His enchanted claw rings bring such speed that, at a run, he ploughs furrows in the ground to form new channels. A useful connection for irrigation and farming experts! Given their magnificent wings, running is an unusual pursuit for sky dancers, but Sphen always felt relief from his anxieties when moving in this way, contributing to his interest in magical footwear. Perhaps this will be his specialism, or just one interest in a rich life. Sphen has potential and a lot of friends to back him up. Other dragons appreciate his determination and ability to accept the trauma of others. His empathy is not natural but built up through his own struggles and encounters with other dragons over time. Putting himself in other dragons’ shoes, and collaborating to make his magical own, is leading him to becoming a mature dragon one can rely upon and relate to. Go Sphen!

Along with Tua, Sphen is named for the Tuatara, this time through their genus- Sphenodon. As opposed to the parietal eye, Sphen’s experience resemble more the Tuatara’s spiky back- much like Sphen’s original defensive mechanisms, it is pronounced and spiny.
