Biography

Scribe
Former member of the Silent Crow Outpost
Patient Scholarly Gentle
T H E M E: Time

Garou has a way with words. This is the first thing to notice about him. He speaks with a clear, soaring cadence that betrays his education and he doesn't waste breath. His speech is akin to poetry on a good day. Garou isn't a particularly commanding presence until he speaks, but then he can hold a room in his palm.

It was his proficiency with language that brought Garou to the Silent Crow Outpost and his position as a scribe. He spent nearly a year drafting formal letters for the ambassadors and assisting the record keeper when the workload was overwhelming. The thing that made Garou think twice about staying for another year was the casual secrecy that the outpost employed. Questions were strongly and amiably discouraged. The outpost was governed, as far as Garou could tell, by a board of representatives, which was led by the chancellors. On the occasions that he did glimpse Chisai or Copernicus, they brought an eerie reverence into the room with them. The other dragons spoke to them as if addressing rather unstable royalty. Although Garou worked with the record keeper, a pompous Bogsneak named Cilan, he was forbidden from most contact with the Acquisitions Department. He had little knowledge of how the outpost actually made the money that supported its endeavors. It was, by no means, a small establishment. The old manor that housed the outpost was sprawling and maze-like and many of its rooms went unused. And yet, the kitchen was always well-stocked, Garou always received his pay on time, and paper and ink was never in short supply.

Garou is lucky that he isn't curious. He isn't oblivious, but he doesn't suffer from the all-consuming curiosity that drives some dragons to ruin. Garou is calculated. He never acts in passion, if he can possibly help it. It was this facet of his disposition that kept him out of trouble during his time at the outpost and allowed him to part ways gracefully when he finally did so. Garou requested an audience with Chancellor Chisai so he could grant his resignation as much grace as possible. Although Chisai is not easily charmed, Garou's voice must have been a rare exception, because the chancellor was not only accommodating, but also sent him off with a small advance on his pay and her well wishes. Garou left the outpost and the Tangled Wood with no qualms about the organization he had been working for.

Although he maintains that he is looking for more work, Garou is also a bit of a romantic, of the hopeless variety. You'd never know it to talk to him, but Garou's affinity for poetry is also an affinity for romance. He plays the perfect gentleman in every courtship he enters into, although those have, thus far, been few and far-between. Garou's first love in language, and this is staggeringly evident to all those who know him well. Coming between Garou and his writing would be ill advised.

Garou often contemplates the Silent Crow and what was really going on in the corners of it that were outside of his vision. It could have been nothing. Still, Garou didn't want to take a chance on nothing. He knew that shady organizations could be found in every territory of Sornieth, and the Tangled Wood was no exception. Garou doesn't often mention his time at the outpost unless prompted. He's still on the lookout for new work and talking about his old work hardly seems productive. Garou has never been one to travel light. His piles of scrolls and records must accompany him whenever and wherever he moves. Words are, and may always be, the thing most precious to him.
