Night fell and the little fae wrapped her darker wings around her body, gently nosing the fireflies into the safety of the shelter. She knew they couldn't really think, but sometimes she could make the little creatures understand that stealth was necessary. Hopefully tonight would be that night, since there was something out there stalking her. Alyxandria had left her home out of fear one night... the fear that she would get into trouble. Knowing she wasn't allowed, she had snuck into the alchemist's laboratory and was looking around. The little fae could not resist the bubbling beakers, the simmering cauldrons, or the various glowing liquids that were set aside in vials. Her curiosity got the better of her and she opened a vial of a particularly beautiful sky blue solution. The alchemist's assistant chose that moment to make a clatter in another part of the lab, startling Alyxandria and making her spill the glowing liquid all over herself. Biting back a yelp of surprise and fear, Alyx watched as the strangely thick, viscous material migrated to her hands, feet, and frills... a few drops that had missed her and hit the floor gathering themselves into bobbing, darting forms that zipped around the utterly confused dragon. She'd been warned that one more infraction was going to result in punishment. Alyxandria was, unfortunately, very young; she imagined being put through all sorts of horrors. In reality, she probably would only have been grounded and given chores... but the young are excitable and this was a big mistake. She ran. That had been days ago. Looking around the darkness and huddling into herself, Alyxandria thought about going home. Unfortunately, she had no idea where home was. She had never been outside the lair before because she was too young, and she had paid little attention to direction or landmarks as she fled. By the time the sound of her pursuer had been gone for a while, the moon was high in the sky and she was able to see again. Alyx followed a small trail made silver by the light above. The little sparks that flitted around her moved to the front and began to try to fly in one particular direction. For some reason it seemed they couldn't fly further than a couple of feet away from her, but they definitely wanted her to follow them. |
