It is so sad that she species is rapidly going extinct, and the FWS decided not to put them on the endangered species list because they have more important species to dedicate their resources to. If anyone wants to help conserve them, and you live in an area where monarch butterflies live, the best thing to do is to plant milkweed! That is the only plant the caterpillars can eat, and it wild milkweed patches are being destroyed with land development. Monarch butterflies actually migrate every year, and the round-trip spans 3 generations to complete. They hibernate in Mexico every winter in one forest.
