Biography

DRAGON FROM THE CLAN'S FIRST YEAR

Quote:
Ares has already given you a warm greeting, and also offers to walk you to the lair itself with a smile on his face.

Ares is the friendly, easygoing border guardian of the clan. He is admittedly not the brightest, but makes up for his shortcomings in intelligence with a pure zest for life and earnest dedication to the clan. He is currently supervising Aila, the Imperial he brought to the clan himself, as she too leans the ropes of guarding and patrolling. He is a big, friendly sentry who doesn’t tend to bat an eye when it comes to letting dragons of all sorts enter.

Ares was found by Marshal, the clan patron, wandering the borders of his territory as a little hatchling. Marshal, both taking pity on him and eager to make expansion efforts for his then-minuscule clan, took him in.

With no other Gaoler dragons to raise him and inform him of traditional Gaoler ways, even in adulthood, Ares knows nothing of his breed’s traditions. He was taken in before Alpha was even born, effectively making him the "actual first dragon to join The Clan of the Wounded". Not that the clan even had a name at the time, nor a direction.

Ares grew up fast, and grew up large. It was agreed upon by Marshal and Stella after their first child, Alpha, was born, that the clan needed some form of defense. Ares was groomed to be that defense, sent out to the outskirts of the clan’s territory to patrol and keep an eye out for intruders or attackers. Ares quite enjoyed this position, loving the opportunity to be out in the (admittedly sparse) nature of the Scarred Wasteland as much as he pleased.

Much like Ares was discovered as a hatchling, to his surprise, one dragon did turn up at the borders while he was standing guard. It was an Imperial hatchling, a breed he had never seen before. Absolutely enamored with the hatchling, he scooped it up and went bounding back to the lair, where he proudly announced the clan had a new member (much to Marshal’s confusion).

This was Aila, a dragon who grew up glued to Ares’s side. She accompanied him on his back or head every day on his patrols, and when she came of age, Ares’s “little buddy” decided to become a healer. She, however, positioned herself in the edge of the territory’s border, to spend as much time assisting Ares as possible. Shortly after Aila grew up was when Ares learned Marshal and Stella had been arranging to get him a mate—Misty. Ares had never once considered the idea of having a mate, and while his romancing efforts with Misty are still in an incredibly early stage, he’s an absolute fool around her.

Ares and Aila now tramp around the clan territory borders together, Aila assisting in both his duties and providing medical support to wayward travelers. Ares still has no qualms with letting any dragon pass by his checkpoint, and now that the clan has become substantially larger, beyond the basic struggle for survival, Marshal has (begrudgingly) objected less and less to his open-doors policy of guarding the borders.

He hasn't achieved much substantial with Misty, even after all this time. She has expressed interest, and the two have even produced several clutches together, but even after their many years of sharing the clan's space, being among the very first dragons to join, they still haven't defined their relationship. At least Ares isn't any worse off for it.

58822158p.png Aila and Ares are the best of friends. Their relationship is sibling-like in nature, as in terms of age, though Ares practically raised her, they are only a few years apart. Both are kindhearted dragons and are happy with their stations, seeing how the clan has grown and flourished. Though as easy to please as he is, Ares would happily take on any task should his position become obsolete, provided Aila can still act as his assistant.
58881469p.png Misty ? is still certainly an object of Ares's affections. He finds her smart, charming, and cute, but even after all this time and even fathering some of her offspring, he can't find it in him to decide what, exactly, the two of them "are". Given where they each conduct most of their work, their paths don't cross often enough to force him to consider it on a deeper level.
58511354p.png Marshal, to Ares, is the father he never had. Marshal certainly didn't know what to do with Ares back then, and even now doesn't understand him entirely, but nothing can deny the two are close. Despite Ares's lax attitude about guarding getting on his nerves, Marshal knows he means well and still finds his can-do attitude admirable. Ares just wants to impress him however possible, and now that the clan has grown so large and relaxing is an "option", Marshal has taken much of his free time to go spend it with Ares and let him know he appreciates his dedication to a clan with such a miserable-looking start.
68747040p.png Patchkey has her mother's admirable brains, and Ares has watched her grow with wonder, proud of the entrepreneurial young dragon she's grown into. He's perfectly happy to help her with the inn and comes by nearly every night to take a rest from his shift, and therefore enjoy the chance to visit with her.
68747038p.png Melonhead confused Ares the moment they got stuck in their egg, and by the time they had their head out, he knew they were certainly something special. And confusing... Ares surely didn't know what to make of them. But at the very least, even if Ares didn't understand them, he never feared them, and he makes a consistent effort to at least be present in Melonhead's life. Unfortunately, both of them are rather socially inept, and don't share much common ground, so their relationship isn't as strong as Ares would like it to be.

12523.png Ares stepped on Thumper while on patrol. He was, of course, quite apologetic about causing the jackalope injury, but Thumper instead bit his leg and hung on for nearly an entire day as if to make a point. By the time Thumper decided to let go, he realized Ares wasn't so bad, and decided to stick around without much afterthought.
