Harriet

Harriet hatched on her own, quietly, out of a muddy puddle on the border of the Windswept Plateau and the Sea of a Thousand Currents where she stayed.. not really understanding much, but gleaning what she needed to get by.

She understood that she was growing up in the former hatchery of her clan. As she grew, exploring her surroundings, moving south, Harriet learned there had been a horrible battle in that area.. The trees that remained showed signs of fire damage while huge craters scattered the ground as if pummeled by a meteor shower. She had pulled her smaller self out of one deep hole that had collected water from massive rains that followed the battle.

When she thought back to that time she could now expand that memory and see her small, scared finned face breaking the surface of the puddle and scanning back, able to see more of the area, smoking and bleak, many destroyed nests with bits of shell scattered around them. Massive foot prints broke the previously tidy pattern of breeding ground.

Rather than dwell on the depressing happening of her birth she concentrated on education. Something told her it was very important to know all about her surroundings.

It never occurred to Harriet that there might be another creature around. As far as she knew, the world was all hers.

That was.. until she came across what could only be an unhatched egg. Instinct told Harriet to move away from it swiftly, as there could be a possessive mother Dragon nearby. 'Maybe it's MY mother!' -was her next thought.

The small green egg cracked completely open with no ceremony, and Harriet was drawn closer to the hatchling by something she couldn't explain.
